The Buenos Aires City consumer price index climbed 2.2% during September accumulating 40.3% in the last twelve months according to the latest release from the City's stats office. So far this year (nine months) inflation has reached 31.1%
The main increases were reported in Alcoholic drinks and tobacco, 5.1%; clothing and footwear, 4.5%, mainly because of the change of season to spring-summer.
Household equipments and maintenance was up 4.5% and transport averaged 2.9%, because of the increase in taxi fares and fuel costs. Food and non alcoholic beverage increased 2.2%, the same rate at the monthly inflation. In this item meats showed an increase of 3.2%, while milk, dairy produce and eggs, 2,5%.
However a fall in vegetables and legumes, down 1%, helped to soften the food item.
The Argentine government official inflation index for September will be announced sometime next week as well as the so called 'Congressional index' an average of private economic and financial consulting companies.
But it must be pointed out that the official Indec figure is expected to be below the Buenos Aires City index, since this has been the case all along this year. For example In August while Buenos Aires estimated the consumer price index at 2.3%, the Indec figure was 1.3%.
