Chile is confident that in coming months there will be 'significant' advances in a convergence of the Pacific Alliance and Mercosur, said Andres Rebolledo, Chile's Deputy Trade minister during a visit to Brazil. Read full article

Never mind, Chile. You were doing quite well. Intelligence and time still necessary but you were going somewhere. Then Bachelet threw it away. Brazil is a proven no-hoper. Shouldn't it have been able to mount a small international competition? Just 31 countries. Meanwhile, London, England mounted the 2012 Summer Olympic Games and hosted 204 countries. Where IS Chile going?

This will only work if a new Brazil Govt drops mercosur and then Brazil-Uruguay and Paraguay join the Pacific Alliance maybe - if they want Arg and Venezuela in it then Chile must have completely gone loony.

    1 & 2 @ I agree 100% with both of you....
Just in case the Brazilian Gvt. change to a center right party it could be a good idea to get a convergence with Mercosur partners.....except Paraguay that has been changing to the right side...
But, having what we unfortunately have there is no probability to Chile will focus only in the PA and will tray to engage with Brazil and its partners.....
But, I wonder, is this what we deserve and nothing more having the december 2013 election result that we had.....??? I tend to believe it´s so, but inside appears the rebelión and think that our fate must be better than that and we deserve to recover our way to growth and development with a Gvt. that believe in the entrepeuners and private sector as the engine of development in all áreas, economic & social....contrary those now at the Office, hard believers of the growing State role as “the” promotor.....(food for the corruption and political leftist parties to assure the power).

Paraguay and Uruguay are looking into becoming members of the Pacific alliance invited by Chile so they can enjoy the progress that Chile has had for decades; however, that will take at least 6 years in the best of circumstances and it is not 100% sure to happen. Chile wants to accelerate that change and the easiest way is having Brazil to take the Pacific Alliance format with in South America and have Paraguay and Uruguay follow alone. Mercosur will exist but Chile, Peru y Colombia will have free trade agreements or something very close with Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. After that Mercosur will just start fading into the night.

Bachelet is increasingly looking like the liability I said she would be and was smooth talked by some posters to 'give her time'.

It is clear that time is up. Such a shame that a promising country like Chile is stuck with a 1920's era leader like the rest of SA.
