Even if the plates had been purposely selected to annoy the Argentines, they should have been mature enough to just laugh it off!
OMG, what am l saying? Argentines & maturity in the same sentence?
Who cares about their fragile macho feelings, they certainly don't care about ours.
After all that though, l personally believe that the plates were deliberately chosen, and then again, who cares?
    Suck it up, baby.

    @2

You've clearly never visited Argentina then; seen the cheap political signage; smelt the burning tires and flags. Last I heard these Malvi bananas are trying to make it law for school children to compulsory sing some of 'Maldives' patriotic hymn. North Korea could learn a thing or too from this joke of a backward, wasted country.

The facts in this matter are simple enough for even an argie to understand. H982 FKL is a recognisable UK registration. It's possible to check that this registration was originally allocated to the vehicle in question. We can see the argie mind set, but who would scour the entire country to locate a vehicle with that registration? And if it weren't available for sale? While we're at it, who's seen the videos on the argie preparation? The 'camps', the braziers, the blue and white dishrags with the urine stain in the middle? Look very carefully. Argie 'veterans' should be over 50 years of age. How many of those can you see? How may 50 year olds that you know can run after a Lotus Esprit, a Ford Mustang and a Porsche 928? Another argie put up job.

On top of that, argieland invaded a peaceful country. The UN told it to get off. Doesn't argieland rely on the UN? Argieland continued. It occupied. It subjected Islanders to foreign domination. It started a war. Britain responded. In fact, it only made the argies on the Islands surrender. It should have gone on and decimated the argie population. Not too good on arithmetic. Doesn't 'decimation' mean leaving 1 out of 10 alive?

Bottom line, if you invade our peaceful territory, occupy it and start a war, a war that you LOST, we feel entitled to take the piss as much as we want. What's wrong with the CUNTry of COWARDS? No sense of humour? We were kind. We only killed 649 of your war criminals. 6,490 would have been better. Obliterating every argie slug settlement within a thousand miles would have been even better. Might have taught you some 'respect'.
@6. You seem to be having some difficulty justifying your CUNTry. Perhaps you're getting confused. No decency, honesty, maturity or truth in argieland. 'Crime' statistics inaccurate. Argieland lawless. Decimate or obliterate? 750 dead? Did we get more than we thought? WHOOPEE!

Apparently it wasn't deliberate as the plate signifies it's origin and history. I personally didn't see any relationship to the Islands in the lettering.
“Well the number-plate is the old sequence : H982 FKL
H is the old year code, H meaning the car was first registered in 1991
FKL - Is the area code, FKL is maidstone in Kent.
982 - Is the sequence, so this is the 982nd car to be registered in the maidstone area in 1991”

If it was 1982 FKL then one could say there's a correlation. But it doesn't, what is does signify is irrational paranoid delusions, the causation which must stem from childhood indoctrination. As there is a perfectly rational explanation for the numbers and lettering on the plate, which has absolutely nothing to do with the Falklands.

Well, it's nice to see the BBC respond as they should.

And since my Argentine neighbors feel slighted, please accept my personal apologies for you as a paranoid overly sensitive race that takes offense at imaginary insults from a television program that could have brought your country very favorable tourism publicity.

I would also especially like to thank my Argentine brothers for showing what ARSES they are and showing the true generous hospitality of the wonderful populace of Punta Arenas, whom Jeremy Clarkson has repeatedly praised in the press.

One reason why I don't believe it was deliberate was that the plates were too subtle. A genuine attempt to mock would have been unsubtle and not the standard British format. Like F4LK LND or something similar.

Here in Italy we looooved this Top Gear programme. It made our Argentinian (embarrassment) brothers look even more stupid than usual which was very funny.

They should have just ignored it then they would have retained their dignity and enjoyed a surge of new tourism from viewers of Top Gear from all over the globe. As it was they made themselves look like belligerent thugs and ARSES. Who would want to visit such a place inhabited by these Neanderthals?

“but you have to have the decency not to laugh about 750 dead.”

A bit of “creative accounting” there don't you think? Official losses for the argentine armed forces ( if we are going to call them that ) were 649. That your government SHAMEFUL treatment of them when they got home caused another 100 to commit suicide is NOT our concern.

It is YOU and YOUR country and YOUR government that needs to man up and take responsibility for those 100.......but you never will, will you?

But, you're being too harsh upon the Argentine people. Didn't they hail and welcome back their defeated warriors with warm embrace and provide assistance to those who were both physically as well as psychologically traumatized by the Argentine military maltreatment?

Personally I think it's so much easier to blame your problems upon others than to personally take responsibility for your crimes.

Paulie- So we Islanders are not decent and considerate?
By the way the casualty list in 1982 was nearer 900 when to add both sides up.

It is SO inconsiderate of us Islanders when we make mention and pray for your war dead every 14th June at our annual commemoration and remembrance service for 1982.

It was so inconsiderate and bad of us and the British to invite your navy to send a warship on the 25th Anniv to join a British warship and hold a joint service of remembrance and wreath laying for the ARA Belgrano?
It was so rude of us that your Govt refused to even acknowledge or reply to the invite!
It is so rude and inconsiderate of us Islanders to drive your veterans and next of kin families out to the Darwin cemetery and stand respectfully and quietly by as they grieve over their fallen.
Yes we are a bloody inconsiderate lot I guess.

Well I know one fact - no Islander is as thick- foul mouthed and idiotic as Paulie.
