    “No Thanks, We're Going Global”

Catchy! I'm a supporter of the EU but believe that the UK would work better outside the EU. It's a good slogan for the upcoming debate.

I'm for leaving too...the UK buys more from France & Germany than they buy from us, so I doubt they'll make life too hard.

I live in Gibraltar now, if we leave the only drawback would be Spain making life even more uncomfortable for Gib, but then the EU aren't doing much to get Spain to stop their thuggish bullying of Gibraltar anyway, and we're supposed to be EU partners.

The UK needs to leave before they're sunk with the rest of the EU.

The EU has a flag no one salutes, an anthem no one sings, a president no one can name, a parliament whose powers subtract from those of national legislatures, a bureaucracy no one admires or controls, and rules of fiscal rectitude that no member is penalized for ignoring. - George Will.

The British are completely insane and hallucinating dunces.

    We are going global?? hahahahahahahaha!!!!

Let me tell you what it takes to “go global” in the 21st century, in no particular order (that is, to garner any interest from the largest nations and economic / trading blocks):

    1. Have a population of greater than 150 million inhabitants.
    2. Be a source of cheap labor
    3. Have massive reserves of oil / gas
    4. Be a major breadbasket of the world in grains, cattle, etc.
    5. be a superpower, or be a nation with such potential

The UK has NONE of those prerequisites, I repeat, NONE. A paltry population of 60 million (which would sink further with an EU exist), certainly completely overpriced to be competitive in anything; no fossil fuels left, cannot feed its own population, and is no superpower nor does it have the potential to ever be again.

So why would China, European Union, United States, NAFTA, ASEAN, Pacific Alliance, MERCOSUR, India (all entities that have at least some of the above characteristics), even bat an eyelash for such an inconsequential (and very likely dismembered following a EU departure), southern half of some island on the periphery of Europe?

“The Sunday Times reported that aides to Cameron had told Euro-skeptic Conservative lawmakers that his renegotiation plans go further than he has made public, including “rebranding” Britain as an associate or trading member of the bloc.”

Gullible and delusional. These are the “leaders” of a country, scary.

They really think the EU will just sit there and allow the UK to do passport control, stop all benefits for EU migrants, stop paying into EU coffers, change all EU regulation they don't like.... but let the UK keep trading with them with no costs added!!

I can't wait to see all the above. It will be the biggest humble pie ever baked in the history of humanity!

    4. You've never been right about anything and I'm very sure not going to start now.

UK is a world power. One of the most powerful nations currently and for the last 500 yrs.

They don't need the EU its been an anchor arounds its neck and they need to get rid of it so they can excel.
    and they will

BTW they've found a Massive ( north sea type discovery) of frackable oil/gas in England.
You should update your knowledge base.

BTW don't sell the garrafas yet. Even though they're 5x more on the “black market” than the out of stock gov't rate.
    They'll be much higher sooner
    Enjoy the blackouts

    pathetic loser

Speaking of going Global, Cristina's military shopping spree in Russia, China and Iran now includes India...

In the Jane's Fighting Ships Registry News there is a brief article about advanced negotiations for the purchase transfer in 2020 of the INS Viraat Centaur-class aircraft carrier currently in service with the Indian Navy. Authorities of the Argentine government mentioned that the carrier was a part in re upgrading their navy and mentioned that the vessel had been recently completely upgraded and refitted in 2013. It is further noted that the ship will be made the flagship of the Argentinian Navy and will be named the ARA Belgrano II.

    6. I wonder what planes they'd put on a carrier. Right now they only have a few that fly but no fuel to fly them.

It must be hard for the Rgs to go from place to place and dream about what they want to buy and what they used to be.

    I feel sorry for them

Like the F-35B the IRIAF Qaher has in development a short take-off and vertical-landing (STOVL) variant that will ideal for the new Argentine Belgrano II carrier, which I might add has historically proven to be very suitable for handling the south Atlantic seas.

    @ 4 The_troLLimpic_games
Cameron is going to get most if not all of what he want, for very pragmatic reasons, Europe is very different to S. America like that.

Not least because much of what he wants is supported by other countries, not everyone in Europe thinks that it works as it could or should.

The nightmare scenario for countries like Sweden, Finland, Holland ect, ect, is that the British get exemptions (in time honoured EU fashion) from the stupidity that they are then stuck with. Cameron is not alone in wanting reforms.

The EU now knows very well, it can either reform to keep the British (the second biggest net contributor) in, or have to reform when the British leave to prevent total collapse.

This is still early days and you can learn a lot by watching how it unfolds, difficult to see how you could know less.

@2. Look on the bright side. If the UK leaves the EU, there wouldn't be any more European constraints on what Britain could do.

Here's some thoughts. Not having to pay £55 million A DAY, Britain would save more than £20 billion a year. The projected cost of the two aircraft carriers currently under construction/being fitted out is £6.2 billion. Another SIX carriers if we wanted. A Type 45 destroyer is only about £1,050 million. A billion is a thousand million. With £20 billion to spend, we could have another 19 Type 45s. The Type 26 frigate is projected to cost £350 million per vessel. Think 57 frigates. The cost of Astute class submarines has dropped to £747 million per boat. 26 Astute subs. 160 or more Typhoons. Challenger 2 MBTs or Warrior IFVs?

Consider a non-EU UK. What would there be to stop the UK doing whatever to spain? Naval bombardment by Astute submarines? Guardia Civil boats eliminated. Naval gunfire from Type 45 destroyers/Type 26 frigates? The spanish air force eliminated by the RAF? Chances are that the threat would be enough.
@4. Wait as long as you like. I won't go through the majority of your laughable lies, but do explain. When the UK leaves the EU how do you imagine the EU is going to do anything other than accept UK passport control? Benefits for EU migrants? There won't be any migrants. Not unless they've paid their £5,000 deposit. Nope, we won't be paying. And we won't change any EU regulations. We'll just ignore them. Until the “little” Act of Parliament that says all EU legislation is cancelled.
@6. Goodie. Another Belgrano to sink. Astute class submarines don't use WW2 era torpedos.

Argies looking to run an aircraft carrier? Lol

You don't just pick one up and run a carrier. They need a lot of skill and experience AND are very expensive to run.

It will be a fabulous white elephant if they do buy one.

I'm not sure how saying “no thanks, were going global” is deemed as being nasty by Mercopress?

I think “F*** off you bunch of continental wankers, we want out” has better ring to it and slightly more nasty.

I hope and pray my countrymen and women vote leave, but my fears are that this will be a very unfair fight and stacked against the out campaign.

A glorious decommissioning for the HMS Hermes.

I envision the venerable old HMS Hermes-INS Viraat, re-christened as the Argentine Belgrano II carrier, With its flight deck loaded with IRIAF Qaher STOVL fighters steaming towards the illegally occupied Malvinas to “peacefully” re-take them....

...on the hydrophones the sonar operator hears the distinct signature of four Spearfish torpedos closing in at high speed...

    ¡Saludos!

Of course, but there will be even less oil and at a much lower price than last time.

Making independence and still out of the EU, even more economically unviable than last time.

The SNP are now not even in favour of “full fiscal autonomy” for Scotland as part of any “DeVo max” settlement.

Saying “it would take many years to implement meanwhile maintaining the fiscal safety net of the Barnet formula (Political jargon for subsidies from England).”

If they had had their way Scotland would already be independent and out of the EU.
