Royal Mint has issued a special £20 coin to celebrate Queen Elizabeth 62 years in power

The special issue £20 coin has the Queen's current portrait on one side and five portraits of the Queen throughout her reign on the other side.

As of 9 September 2015 Queen Elizabeth II will be the longest reigning monarch in British history, surpassing the reign of Queen Victoria. The Queen's coronation took place in 1953 which means 2015 marks her 62nd year in power.

To commemorate this occasion the Royal Mint have issued a special issue £20 coin bearing the Queen's current portrait on one side and five portraits of the Queen throughout her reign on the other side.

The limited edition coins have been designed by Stephen Taylor while the iconic image of the Queen on the front of the coin was produced by Jody Clark. Currently only 150,000 have been produced and there is a limit of ten coins to each household.

However if the commemorative coin is as popular as one that was recently released bearing the image of Buckingham Palace then there is a chance the coin will be re-issued at a later date.

Other products in the same range as the £20 coin include a £5 coin, a five-ounce gold proof coin and a gold proof kilo coin.

According to Hello Magazine, the special occasion will be heralded with a flotilla that will sail down the River Thames, starting at Tower Bridge and finishing at the Houses of Parliament.

The coin is available to buy on the Royal Mint website at face value.

It's such a shame that these commemorative coins are so expensive. You can buy this £20 coin for £20. Might we want to commemorate Sir Winston Churchill or the Battle of Britain? The least expensive Churchill coin, a £5 Brilliant Uncirculated coin costs £13. The least expensive Battle of Britain coin is a 50p Brilliant Uncirculated for £15.95. Face value £25.50. Cost £48.95.
