Supporters rallied around the wife of Venezuela's opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez on Friday, calling for peaceful protests as he was sentenced to nearly 14 years in jail for his role in deadly anti-government demonstrations last year. The European Union joined in denouncing a “harsh” verdict, while Washington said it was “deeply troubled” by the treatment of the US-trained economist. Read full article

Just stop buying their oil...no one needs it with the glut of oil in the market. Madman will be gone in a week...

One day the US is castigated for “interfering” in various countries, the next it is being encouraged to do so. How strange.

On May 28, 2014, the United States House of Representatives passed the Venezuelan Human Rights and Democracy Protection Act (H.R. 4587; 113th Congress), a bill that would apply economic sanctions against Venezuelan officials who were involved in the mistreatment of protestors during the in the 2014 Venezuelan protests.

In December 2014, the US Congress passed Senate 2142 (the “Venezuela Defense of Human Rights and Civil Society Act of 2014”)

    43 deaths.

More Venezuelans die every day because of the break down in law and order under this government.

The gall of their foreign minister to make reference to the attacks of September 11 in her comments... What irreverence, disrespect! We are truly dealing with a bunch of crunchy, freshmen political science majors! I continue to pray and lend my support to Leopoldo, Lilian, and the Venezuelan people at this horrible part of their history.

As the world's only superpower and largest economy, I'm pretty sure the United States has learnt where its place is.

Not in the same league as Brazil!

@7 Pode nos dizer onde fica o papel do Brasil na economia global depois de 2016, meu caro amigo? Acho que o México ou a Colômbia vai apresentar um desafio à hegemonia brasileira da região a partir desse ano.

Can you give us an idea of what Brazil's “place” in the global economy is going to be after 2016, dear friend (-2.6 in 2015, -0.5 in 2016)? I think Mexico or Colombia might present a challenge to your country's hegemony in the region by then.

Its a shame that Arg and the others UNASUR countries, don t said anything. If Maduro would have belonged to a right win party, all our South Am presidents , of course they would have crticized him.

I am convinced that these latam trolls use youtube because they lack their own intelligence to either read or garner thoughts AND they do not realize that using youtube to make a point (other than a comical point) diminishes their intelligence. Of course, not one uses you tube with the frequency as MP's own famous asshole....brasshole.

@19 Exactly why I don't post links or click on them. They can be useful if directing to a legal document or a published article but rarely give weight to any argument.

The Brasileiro Gang appear to have an average age of 14. They admitted they gather together to hate on the West. They really need another hobby.

I hope the Saudis continue to flood the market with oil. The lower the price of oil stays, the more tenuous Maduro's hold on power will be. I know they're desperately hoping it rises again, but if it stays below $50/barrel for another 6 months or more hopefully, there will be even less toilet paper on the shelves.
