The Falkland Islands will commemorate this Tuesday 8th December, the naval engagements of 8th December 1914, one of the Royal Navy's greatest victories during the First World War, which resulted in the sinking of a German imperial squadron that threatened to capture the Islands.

 On that day six British sailors lost their lives and a number of others died later from injuries received during the battle. 2,260 German sailors also lost their lives.

According to the program released by Gilbert House, at 10.35 there will be a parade in Stanley consisting of a detachment of FIDF and the Associations, which will march to the Battle Memorial for the Act of Remembrance.

At 10.45 am the parade will arrive at the Battle Memorial. Members of the various youth organizations will be present.

At 10.58 Governor Colin Roberts will arrive at the Battle Memorial and will inspect the Parade. After the inspection there will be a Service of Remembrance.

Following the service the Governor will lay a wreath, followed by MLA Gavin Short, the Commander British Forces South Atlantic Islands, and representatives of the Royal British Legion and Associations.

After the ceremony at the Centenary Memorial there will be a march past. Governor Roberts, MLA Gavin Short and the CBFSAI will take the Salute from a dais at the entrance gates to Government House lawns.

Members of the public wishing to attend the ceremony are asked to arrive no later than 10.45am. It is appropriate for decorations and medals to be worn on this occasion.
