Bacardi filed suit on Monday against the United States demanding an explanation of its decision to let Cuba sell Havana Club rum in the United States once the U.S. trade embargo against the Castro brothers' island is lifted. Read full article
Bacardi is a shit Rum. One would have to be seriously desperate to drink that muck. The US citizens have missed out by allowing their Gov. to ban Havana Club for so long.
However, there are many, many far superior Rums to be found across the Caribbean, and in the north of South America.
I, myself, have dedicated a considerable part of my adult life in pursuit of the most excellent varieties and vintages... I have sampled at least 250 over the years...
I would list them, but (un) fortunately I can't remember them all...

I agree, Bacardi was ok for 'rum and cokes' back in the 60's, but not much else.
Have you tried Ron Atlantico from the Dominican Republic , or Zacapa from Guatemala...both delicious, to drink pure, and neat.

I agree that some Rums are better in mixers, and some high-end ones can be sampled neat, sipped and savoured like a good whisky, (or a 'whiskey' if you prefer a good Irish single malt!)
Bacardi is never a good thing. The advertising line in the UK is 'made with latin spirit' and accompanied by images of Cuba. Everyone knows it is made in Florida by some giant US corp.
I have tried the Ron Atlantico” from the Dominican Republic, very nice too, and will look for the Zacapa!
More to add to the shopping list... oh well...
;-)

Mount Gay Eclipse from the good Island of Barbados is a particular favorite of mine.

Feb 03rd, 2016 - 11:54 am - Link - Report abuse 0All the Havana club drinkers for the last 40 years should sue Bacardi as it is not rum from Havana.
If Odumbo was involved for sure it skirted some laws.
