“summoning of two women who witnessed the incidents but the addresses they reported, in the city of Pergamino, proved to be false”

“The prosecution also alleged that it had video evidence from cameras at the National Flag monument square, but finally proved to be nonexistent.”

Parallels with Argentina's Falklands claim anyone?

you are utterly unfair here. I will be the first to say that our judiciary sucks, but how many times all over the (civilized also) world someone is put under custody and then ... all the evidence was not as solid as they say. Countless times.

This was a mistake and nobody is happy, but they were released already.

The Falklands claim is not a mistake, is a deliberated wrong.

The Argentine police are still following up a tip-off that one of the women was recently living in the Casa Rosada while the other is believed to have a connection to the Argentine Embassy in London.

Oh in the “civilized” world they also make mistakes, just nowhere as grievous and horrid as in Argentina.

Like shooting dead some poor foreigner just for taking an impromptu job in a tube station, for instance.

@Mercopress: Not to be a nit-packer, but shouldn't the title of this article be 'Chileans who allegedly damaged a Malvinas (sic) monument..' or alternatively 'Chileans accused of damaging a Malvinas (sic) monument...'

Innocent until proven guilty, after all...

    So no proof whatsoever?

What did they do? Just round up the closest group of foreigners?

@7 “....which South American president once described Argentines as a land of thieves and liars....”

    -------

There have been many since the sentiment is axiomatic, but it seems as though the winner was former Uruguayan president Jorge Batlle

“Los argentinos son una manga de ladrones, del primero hasta el último”.

(Argentines are a pack of thieves, from first to last).

Batlle has since won wide recognition for his revelation, including the prestigious Latin American Modern Diplomacy Prize and the Captain Obvious Award.

...or shooting a detainee dead event which erupted into weeks of chaos where the whole country was burned to the ground. Or in another civilized country shooting a 12 old with a toy gun dead. Or killing a guy while arresting him for selling a cigarette. And other such small things. Lets not even get to Chilean “law” in dealing with suspects.

A whole country was burnt to the ground?

    Where?
    When?

@12 “A whole country was burnt to the ground?”

It's what they say in Argentistan when there is a neighbourhood dogfight.

It's quite amusing to see our Ozzer friend now called “Skip”, and Chichureo, now “Marti llazo” aka the 5 foot 5 dark haired, copper skinned Aryan Nazi (and then they say they don't change names and complain that I do it... Anglos will be Anglos), dancing around the indefensible.

They act appalled about some neighborhood disturbance in Argentina where tires are burnt and occassionally a police substation might catch fire, those barbaric Rgs, but major riots in all your maj0r cities including your capital city with widespread looting and conflagrations, that went on for weeks, or recurrent riots in cities all over your country when police should a child dead in another country... those are all acceptable, no problem, just civilized democracy at work, because they happen in Anglo countries.

    All together now:

    Anglos...

At least it was only one child.

It could have been 30,000 dead and disappeared and given to others for adoption.... if it had been Argentina.

Except it was not 30.0o0 total, much less 30k children, and let's not even get started on ripping babies from their mothers arms, the Anglos are experts in this area. Just ask Ozzer, I'm sure he studied Australian history.

    Oh Nostrils

Misremembering past posts that have put you in your place is so typically you.

You're obviously too stupid to realise you're trotted this crappie before and were wrong then. This is why you haven't amounted to anything in your life.

Three assertions can be made on the above:

    1) Hinchas from Universidad de Chile DID graffiti the monument.

    2) The police were inept.

    3) tobi can't differentiate the patriotic Chilean poster “Chicureo” from the anglo poster “Marti Llazo”, despite the latter having almost as much contempt for Chile as tobi.

    @19 tobi,
With your new president's liberalising agenda where do you stand now with your previous, frequently stated claim that:

“Capitalism was a complete failure in Argentina and it ain't coming back”

Should I file it with “Tomatoes can't be grown in winter. FACT”?

@19 “I hold all foreigners in equal contempt. ”

    - A sentiment that is returned. Con creces.

@18 “ ....almost as much contempt for Chile as tobi....”

They sound like sterling fellows with superior standards, long years of relevant experience in the target environments, low tolerance for mediocrity and sneaky ineptitude, the wisdom to lower the persianas and lock the doors, the willingness to call a spade a spade, and the determination to reject the endless waves of characteristic chamullo and viveza criolla.

How can it be personal? It's an anonymous forum and you won't ever leave Argentina.

Honestly we'd have to travel all the way to Mendoza and then find you for it to be personal...... and you aren't anywhere entertaining enough for that amount of effort.

    @ 7 Princess,

“Now remind us all again which South American president once described Argentines as a land of thieves and liars”

I´m sorry for the delayed answer, your Highness; that was former Uruguayan president Jorge Batlle.
One week later he was here in Argentina begging for his apologies to be accepted. He even included one or two tear drops.
