“Falklands remains well protected” says MoD brushing aside London media claims

Sunday, April 3rd 2016 - 06:56 UTC
Full article 59 comments

The United Kingdom Ministry of Defense (MoD) has rubbished claims that the Falkland Islands have been left without protection, due to the absence of a British warship (frigate or destroyer) permanently based in the south Atlantic. The MoD defended itself following reports that the Falkland Islands were “without the protection of a British frigate or destroyer for the first time since the conflict in 1982”. Read full article

The only problem I see is that a Spearfish torpedo costs far more than a Russia Tug Boat.

    Deadly but overkill.

Macri has announced that he has a cunning plan to take the islands while the RN surface ships are away, but indicated that so long as Sarah and Charlotte-Anne at the Stanley Indoor Shooting Club still have their calibre .177 air rifles, the plan will be shelved.

Poor old Independent! Not content with making an arse of themselves- along with most other British National Daylies who all fell hook - line and sinker for the Argentine fantasy about the UN ands seabed shelf sovereignty etc last week - now they come up with “no standing Frigate/Destroyer in the Falklands”
    - ummm - thickos in Independent - there has NOT been a standing continual frigate/destroyer patrol around the Islands - for at least 15 years!!
We have a small armed patrol vessel here all the time - and routine visits by a larger surface warship about twice a year for quite a few years now!
Plus the sub-surface visits we -and Arg - do not know about!

Just goes to show- Most of the UK Press are as stupid as the Argentine Press when it comes to “storytelling”!

It costs Argentina more than the UK in their conflict according to Carlos Escudé. He warned: “If Argentina had power, I would not be doing these proposals,” but reasoned that “pursue policies of power without power is counterproductive” because “leads to losing more than you earn systematically”
“La reivindicación argentina de Malvinas solo sirve para comprar el voto de ciudadanos poco educados”

    Falklands War Cost-Benefit Analysis
    The price of War
”Although the Falklands War had a very noticeable short-term impact on defence expenditure, the impact was not long-lasting. Notwithstanding the first few years after the conflict, when South Atlantic expenditure was greatly consumed by the construction of RAF Mount Pleasant (operational from 1986), the amount spent wasn't overly significant. In 1986-7, it was only 2.23% of total defence expenditure, and by 1989-90, a mere 0.33%. At their height (1982-3), the war's effects represented only 6.76% of total defence expenditure.”

Seems like money well spent, which is miniscule and in any event and would be spent else where. In addition, it is a great area for training. What better way could the money be used other than to assist the application of the UN Charter.

So much resentful comments, some of them outright ridiculous, even if you left the islands undefended at all, Argentina, won´t invade again.
The overwhelming majority is against any war, anywhere in the world, it is unimaginable for our culture to invade other country now.

Of course, every thief believes that everyone is a thief, the english are natural raiders, invaders and murderers, they would invade if the chance arose so...

    “Argentina, won´t invade again.”

    The rhetoric would indicate otherwise.
The Argentine army chief of staff underlined that the “Malvinas cause remains a permanent and unwavering” goal for Argentina.

You invaded in 1982. We would be remiss to assume that you would not invade. again if conditions were in your favour.
The bottom line is that we have NO reason to trust you.

In another of your posts you seem to think that a continental shelf gives you the right to sovereignty to all the S.Atlantic and Antarctica,

“Well, we do have some pride, the pride of being clean”

Yes, your high morality in butchering most of your indigenous population:
“Instead of being proud of manslaughter like you” (you celebrated this manslaughter on a peso note):
(that's after the Spanish empire left by the way) and your country murdering
30 000 of its own civilians 40 years ago (that's not 200 years ago, that's 40 years ago in the Dirty (clean according to you) War,come to mind as an example of this 'cleanliness.'

Not forgetting the cleanliness of your troops shitting in the bedrooms of Islanders during the 1982 war (in fact everywhere but the actual toilets), plus shitting in the Post Office in Stanley again instead of actually using toilets.

When the British troops took Stanley the first thing they could not believe was the dirt and mess created in just three months.

This is a 'shining' example of your cleanliness.

“we judged the military dictators and sent them to prison...”

After which event caused their downfall?

Why were the Junta not sent packing earlier???-the big clue is above.......

    This is hilarious.

This is my answer: 10 million dead in India. By the english.
Sush, sush my dear english bad guys.

Don´t believe me? Dig the information, ask the Indian people... Maybe try internet?

And yes, Campaña del Desierto. Maybe you are not fond of reading (I mean, you obviously aren´t at ALL fond of reading), but Argentina withstood a very long time raids, people butchered, kidnapped, cattle stolen and sent to Chile.
We even attempted a ditch system instead of slaughtering aboriginals: https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zanja_de_Alsina

Of course, the aboriginals from Chile, who had invaded and utterly exterminated the native aboriginals, did not want to stop the raiding.

So we got tired. What would you have done? Give them hugs?

Anyway, that was a small business compared with “just” the India affair. Let´s check out how many people you killed in China: 50 thousand, only in war! how many died of opium? well, I should dig it out.

“Its the far past” the english complain. Ok buddies ok, lets look at the cheerful present: “Western wars have killed four million muslims since 1990”

WOW, why didn´t you just gave them hugs?
