British Airways is launching the only direct flight between London and Santiago in Chile from January 3, 2017. Santiago will become the airline’s lengthiest long-haul route, taking 14 hours 40 minutes, nearly an hour more than the current longest flight of 13 hours 50 minutes service to Buenos Aires. Fourteen hours forty minutes ! They will have to take the economy class off in a stretcher. Sounds like a recipe for deep vein thrombosis.

LAN operate Dreamliners to Santiago too, excellent airline. The worst bit is Iberia to Madrid which is worse than Ryanair. The Spaniards have no idea. I will give BA a go on my next trip as long as no part of it involves Iberia.

@2 Yes LAN operate the dreamliner from Madrid, Miami and New York but no First Class. The Business Class is great though. You can pick up BA flights to Madrid to avoid the truly awful Iberia. You have to pick your flights and check who is operating it as they all code share.

I will probably try the flight next year just to avoid connections.

I thought BA and Iberia were the same airline now.

A 'merger' yes but they still operate different flights. They still have separate loyalty schemes and websites. Iberia is a really terrible airline and I avoid them wherever possible.

BA and Iberia merged but Iberia just stayed the same! On one flight there was a nutter wandering around the cabin during landing, the so called flight attendants just ignored him! I have noticed on Iberia and Columbian that all the passengers applaud landings. This is presumably because they havent crashed? LAN is a shining light in SA. On my recent Peru trip they were spot on, on time, plenty of leg room, great cabin service snacks a drinks.
