Most Argentines believe the economic situation is bad or very bad, but are also convinced things are set to improve, according to the latest public opinion poll released which coincides with the first six month of president Mauricio Macri's government. However it must also be mentioned that negative tendencies are increasing while positive ones are declining compared to last 10 December.

In effect, the Ibarometro release which covers all of the Argentine territory indicates that 72.1% agree that the current economic situation is bad or very bad, and only 22.9%, good or very good. But looking ahead into the future, 49% believe that in a year's time things will improve or continue on the good track, while 45.1% feel it will continue bad or worsen.

As to the personal situation of the interviewees, 53.8% describe it as bad or very bad. However 50.4% believe it will improve and 36.3% that it will worsen or remain bad.

Regarding President Macri's standing it keeps falling since the positive image he enjoyed when taking office 10 December. Of the 65.6% positive and 25.3% negative, he is now at 51.4% and 45.1%.

On the other hand half of those polled said that the current economic situation is the result of the “legacy received” and 45% feel that the tough adjustment was avoidable.

Likewise the Ibarometro pointed out that 45% of interviews said the 'back and forwards' of the government regarding the implementation of the different measures is result of ”improvising and lack of know-how, and 40% because of ''dialogue capacity''.

Furthermore as to what is Argentina's main problem and growing, 48.1% said socio-economic problems, particularly those associated with increasing poverty, as with security, law and order, while corruption falls five points.

Finally regarding the performance of the Macri administration in the different areas show a negative balance, in effect none of the leading fields has a majority positive opinion, and this is particularly true for the economy and health services.

The opinion poll interviewed 1.200 people on the phone, with a minimum age of 16, and took place between June 5 and 8.

Well we saw what a popular government did to the country. Being unpopular isn't the end of the world if it helps in the long run.

It's no a matter of popularity; rather, it's about employment;cost of living; access to education and much more related to day to day life that is deteriorating under Macri's relentless assault.
Similar programs were in the past applied by military dictatorships, but it's the first time someone tries to do that in democracy.
It doesn't appear as an easy task what Macri has ahead.

Indeed, not an easy task, but it looks like 50% think that Macri will make improvements. As he continues to introduce improvements and people start to see the benefits then, logically, that number should rise.

Meanwhile, people like you continue to deny that Macri has indeed introduced some improvements that should make people's lives easier and help the economy recover from the mess it has been left in...

“Apart from boosting spending for state universities by 500 million pesos, growing the economy by 0.8%, helping Siemens announce the intention to provide us with 6,000 jobs, releasing dollar clamp, starting the process of paying off our international debts which was a hole dug ever deeper for him by the previous administration's refusal to comply with their contractual obligations, stopping INDEC from lying about how bad we were doing and paying the pensioners, what did Macri ever do for us?”
