Queen Maxima of the Netherlands began a two-day official visit Tuesday to her native Argentina in her role as the U.N. secretary-general's special advocate for inclusive finance for development, or UNSGSA, meeting with authorities.

 The 45-year-old Maxima participated in a closed-door panel discussion on “Challenges to Strengthening and Expanding Financial Inclusion in Argentina” at the U.N. Development Program, UNDP, offices in Buenos Aires.

The participants included private sector representatives and Argentine Central Bank chief Federico Sturzenegger.

Maxima also spoke briefly with Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra. “I welcomed Queen Maxima of the Netherlands to my office,” Malcorra said in a Twitter post.

The two-day official visit by King Willem-Alexander's wife included an address on inclusive finance for development late Tuesday to students at the Argentine Catholic University, where Maxima earned a degree in economics. She shared the discussion panel with Finance minister Alfonso Prat-Gay.

Queen Maxima is scheduled to meet on Wednesday with President Mauricio Macri.

Maxima Zorreguieta, who was born in Buenos Aires, visited Argentina in 2005 and 2008 in her role as UNSGSA.
