Argentina's ex president Cristina Fernandez has been ordered to court next Tuesday by federal magistrate Claudio Bonadio, and warned that should she not abide she will be taken by public force to comply with the registry of finger prints and undergo a socio-environment report. The decision refers to the dollar futures case for which the ex president has been indicted. Read full article

I don't think it is worth putting the greater good of the nation at risk by trying to force a showdown.

The British for example do not prosecute their leaders, even if those leaders lead them to catastrophic wars that kills hundreds of thousands and distabilize two three continents, or use referendums whose repercussions will affect generations of citizens in order to satisfy a personal short-term political expediency, because they see it as threatening to their nation's stability.

I get it that Argentina is better than the UK in bringing its leaders to task but sometimes soft is better than hard.

I still don't understand this dollar futures thing. Is it normal for her to be summoned to court in Buenos Aires to have her finger prints taken, or would that usually be done where she lives? And why refuse to go anyway, it's not like she can't afford to get there.

Also what is she actually being prosecuted for? It sounds like it is for incorrectly predicting the future exchange rate of the Peso, which seems kind of dubious as crimes go. Is she supposed to have benefited from this in some way?

    @ Fidel_CasTroll
Leaders are rarely prosecuted by their own countries, and when they are it is for crimes at home, not abroad. No one cares as much about crimes committed out of sight, against foreigners.

Also, yet another new name? Should I just start calling you Tobi?

Dear Toby..., me favourite Argie Troll...

I Think this is a shrewd and very well timed political and mediatical move by Madame la Présidente Cristina Elizabet Fernandez de Kirchner to challenge the illegality of this whole process...

    What illegality you may ask...?
Well... The law is quite clear about it... Any “Socio-Environmental” report of any citizen under investigation MUST be done in the place of residence and domicil of the pertinent citizen..., NOT in a city ~2,500 km far away...

Why very well timed, you may ask...?
Well... As you may know, we are expecting in the next days an official and very critical visit from the UN and the OAS about the illegal detention of Milagro Sala and 10 other activists...
Imagine the implications for the current administration of a picture of an arrested Madame la Présidente...!
Arrested by a completely illegal minor technicality... mind you...!

I THINK Cristina would JUST LUUUUUUUUUUUUV IT...!!

The federal court here in Río Gallegos indicated that it did not have jurisdiction in the case, which would otherwise allowed the fingerprinting to be done here. CFK's attorney made an appeal to the court having jurisdiction, on the basis that the fingerprinting should be done in the defendant's home district, and that appeal was rejected by the court. Actually the appeal had proposed that the fingerprinting be done at one of two options not approved by the court: either on 1 December at the Buenos Aires facility at Comodoro Py, or in Río Gallegos. CFK had earlier declared residency in Bs As province in order to be eligible to run for a legislative seat there, and in doing so would become also eligible for a great deal of immunity from prosecution.

The good old days when you could levy heavy fines on anyone who tried to publish economic data contrary to the official party line. The days when you had to apply for a permit in advance for a peaceful demonstration. The days when you could employ your children to rob the nation blind. You know, the Kirchner Days.

“I still don't understand this dollar futures thing.”
“Also what is she actually being prosecuted for?”

“The investigation revolves around the sale of dollar futures worth US$17 billion payable through June 30, 2016. Those contracts, it was alleged, were settled with a dollar-peso exchange rate that significantly overvalued the peso in comparison to market expectations, particularly if Mauricio Macri won the ongoing presidential elections.”

TMBOA, using the crock of shit that the argie pesos was at the time deliberately and willfully vastly overvalued the pesos resulting in massive dollar loses. She knowingly did this to embarrass Macri by pointing out to the Peronistas 'how Macri had 'cost them money' which many of the 14M uneducated and illiterate scum believed. They, like you, did not understand what was going on.

She, of course, would have taken the opposite 'bet' and raked in the Dollars.

It is yet another example how TMBOA didn't GAF about the country as long as she was alright.

This blatant judicial harassment can only be endorsed by either biased or misinformed persons.
Cristina has, to this day, been present to each audience or questioning she has been called to.
After being denied the prompt oral trial she was requesting, she has said no to the absurd order to travel to Buenos Aires to be fingerprinted. (Is this judge taking everybody for an idiot?).
Bonadio aims against CFK to muddy the waters after being himself imputed on the same matter.
Why? Simply because it was he who authorized all the dollar future operations that took place.
    Who benefited from it?

Among others, Nicolas Caputo, good friend of Mauricio Macri, through Caputo S.A. Purchased US$ 3.5 million between the 8 and 27 October 2016.

José María Torello, Macri's chief assessor--invested US$ 800.000 in dollar future contracts.

Chery-Socma Argentina S.A. of Franco Macri--invested U.S.$ 8 million in contracts of dollar future.

Gustavo Sebastián Lopetegui, ex CEO of LAN and Public Policies co-ordinating secretary, who invested U.S.$ 310.000.

Boca Juniors Club: Angelici brought in $22,8 million.

La Nación operated US$ 4 million in dollar future contracts.

    Cablevisión: US$ 11 million.

As usual, follow the money and you will have chances of being right.

wrong again reekie - on so many things. You can't seem to follow the news.

CFK's own attorney made an appeal to the court having jurisdiction to have CFK present at Comodoro Py for fingerprinting, but on Dec 1, a date the judge did not agree to.

    Try to keep up.

Mr. Marti, who still insists CFK murdered prosecutor Nisman (recently a new refusal of legal action about the so-called Nisman's “murder” was once more issued by the courts) still insists judge Bonadio is right in his judicial harassment of Cristina. Of course, he cannot address Bonadio's unexplainable authorization to operate contracts on dollar future, allowing millions in gains to friends and members of the Macri government but takes great pains to explain why the former president must travel 2,500 km to be fingerprinted. Marti is incapable of realizing the levels of ridicule the Macri government and its acolytes are reaching with their panic of Cristina entering the scene again in the coming election.

Panic, you say, reekie? Is it not panic that we now hear in CFK's public speaking? Is it not panic that is seen in her face and movements? Is it not panic that more evidence against her is being accumulated? Is it not panic that has caused her to transfer her holdings to her other perhaps comparably corrupt family members? It could be complicated for her to campaign for public office from prison.

The New Yorker, ever a sucker for endless defence of the most corrupt and inept leftist regimes, carried an article earlier this year covering of some of Kirchner's, um, issues:

    Véase “Argentina's Culture of Corruption.”

Describing the future-dollar prosecution now underway: “On May 13th, separate from the corruption case, a federal judge indicted Kirchner and had her financial assets frozen on charges that she intervened in a currency trade involving Argentina’s Central Bank, which is said to have cost the country billions of dollars.....”

The article goes on with an editorial observation from Spanish media: ”......Cornered, Cristina Fernández now seeks to show that she is not a thief but merely stupid: that the officials closest to her stole ceaselessly and that half the country knew it, but that she didn’t. Be it one or be it the other, her time is up.”

If you're the least bit clever, you can make good money here. Sell everything at stupidly inflated values just before the inevitable crash, get the money into dollars and momentarily out of the country, and then bring it back to buy property at fire-sale prices after things stabilise at to post-crash lows. For this last step, Chilean banks and fondos mutuos accounts can be convenient and helpful. Then wait for the next inflation cycle. Repeat.

Corruption is a politician printing leaflets scaring your population by stoking RACISM (Turkey and Iraq will join the EU, better vote leave)... then turning right around and flying to the country use racially dissed to now support their entry into the EU.

On any conceivable front (using racism, lying to your own voters, and so brazenly wanting harm on others like the EU, because he obviously believes this would be a mistake but now that the UK is leaving he wants to inflict this supposed harm on the other side), this is about as corrupt and putrid as politics get... which is why all 27 members of the EU now are fed-up with the British and think they are nothing but arrogant buffoons with a big gooey carrot and a tiny little penis for a stick.

I have never seen a country in such a short time make itself the embarrassment and laughing stock of the entire planet. It's so bad NO ONE is coming to associate itself with the UK right now, so bad that in the EU nations and even within the UK, opinions on leaving the EU have dramatically shifted after seeing the rank amateurism of the Brits. Let's not get started on their negotiating position, where they think they have the clout of the USA plus the Soviet Union rolled into one, when in reality they are behind Canada and Malaysia in the pecking order of trade deals.

This is not about hate. This is about someone named Elizabeth but is not a queen, though she desperately tried to feel like one. This is actually against messianic leaders and all the leeches that profit out of peoples' hope for solutions.
There is no viable solution for everyone if it comes from someone that believes that just one view of reality is enough. There is no human purpose in delegating our thought process to totalitarian movements.
Great solutions come from consent of the majority. Fortunately, the majority of Argentines now disagrees with CFK and that style. I wonder how long it will last. Deep inside, I hope it lasts until fascism is nothing but a blurred remembrance in this, my beloved land.

This morning before 8 am CFK did as the judge had ordered, and came to the Comodoro Py jail facility and was fingerprinted. According to the local media reports it took about 20 minutes. Her usual gangs of supporters, in any event too hung over from the previous days' celebrations, were told not to attend the event.

The judge had given CFK until 1 pm today to present herself or face the possibility of arrest and/or contempt charges, so the early arrival easily beat the deadline. That gives her plenty of time for her next appointment today: at the Cuban embassy.

Absolutely! Of course, it demonstrates my point exactly. CFK's own tweets appeared to contradict each other.

I questioned Think's claim based on CFK's tweets and I admitted that I hadn't done a thorough search (and a single CFK tweet is certainly not thorough) because the onus was on him to prove his claims. I never claimed that the CFK tweet that I posted proved anything, it was merely confusing and served to illustrate how unreliable as evidence her tweets are.
