US Judge issues a stay temporarily halting Trump's deportation executive order

A US judge has issued a stay temporarily halting the deportation of visa holders or refugees under an executive order from President Trump. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed a legal case early on Saturday in response to the order. The judge's stay prevents those “caught up” in the aftermath from being deported, the ACLU said. Read full article

This will be a good lesson for Trump; he is not above the law.

I have listened to the debate on both sides of this and the Trump supporters are asserting that this is to prevent another 9/11. However, they could not explain why Saudi Arabia and Egypt are not part of the ban when they were the origin countries of the 9/11 terrorists.

Furthermore, since 9/11 24 U.S. citizens have been killed in the U.S. by Islamic terrorists but in excess of 13,000 are shot dead by other U.S. citizens every year. So explain to me the logic of the ban of Muslims, because that is exactly what it is.

Well Trump set the tone, they already started buring Mosques.........in the south. I am certain more will follow. This is how Trump will handle “THE MUSLIM PROBLEM”, push it to the brainless thugs. Even W had spoken out against vigilantism.

    Is Bannon Trump's Joseph Goebbels?

Damn I was kidding about Goebbels and Bannon. They removed the military from the NSC and replaced the JCOS with Bannon, Heir Goebbles. Now, there are in independent nor military people advising Trump on national security or national defense matters. The normal GOP better wake their asses up before Trump does some serious damage somewhere to this country.

When exactly did Obama sign the executive order banning muslims from the seven countries to the U.S.? What's that? No he didn't. It was Trump and you are one of the manipulated who believes the distraction tactics.

    @Briton
Obama picked the countries for extra checks when he was President. But he never banned anyone. Trump used the same list of countries for convenience, and because his advisors told him an actual ban on Muslims would be illegal. You can't blame Obama for Trump's actions.

It will be interesting to see next years “corruption index”. Considering:

    - North Amoland now has a president who refuses to release his personal taxing.
    - A government that on a daily basis (daily) intimidates the free press
    - A government that has coerced and threatened multiple private enteprises
    - A president that has appointed several family members to positions
    - According to reports, a chief of staff that is “burning the paper trail” already, according to multiple sources
    - A government that has made kickbacks to business owned by government members, or the president himself

You would think the USA will plummet some good 20-25 positions. If it does not, we know that this report it utter fake.

I heard that the proscribed countries were chosen because they couldnt or wouldnt produce enough the travellers personal details to satisfy US Visa requirements.

Trump will get so tied up in legal knots at some point soon he won't be able to operate at all.

Obama originally chose 7 countries for stricter vetting of refugees, and I don't believe they were based on a straightforward risk assessment then, either. I suspect Saudi Arabia and Pakistan were left off because they are US allies. Not sure about Egypt.

Since Trump has banned all travel, not just the entry of refugees, and even banned duel nationals of allied countries, the list makes even less sense, and it's really impossible to believe the reasoning that The Voice mentions.

You mentioned it, you answer it,

no country should ban anyone without a very good reason,

Actually you brought it up, Briton. But since you asked, I think the ban is against everything America used to stand for, I think it will increase anti-American feeling in Muslim countries, and especially make things more difficult for the US-allied government in Iraq. I also think it is unlikely to save the life of a single American citizen. And the comparison to your list of largely despotic and more or less dysfunctional countries is not a flattering one.

You are right that no country should ban anyone without a very good reason, and that is exactly what Trump has just done.

The Trump EO immigration halt *initially* covered green-card holders from the designated countries but that was later “clarified”.

Persons who are legal residents (green card) from the designated seven countries will also be allowed to use the Global Entry programme which permits expedited entry at passport/immigration points.

Of course, all of that could change in the next fifteen minutes.

Exactly how not to run a country.

I work for a multinational, and this week we received an email warning us about travel to the USA, and advising people from the affected countries to delay their travel until further notice. It's the sort of warning we usually get about third world countries suffering from violence or unstable government.

On the other hand, if he really bans Green Card holders from working, it would be pretty crippling for the tech industry. I expect some big names would be looking to move elsewhere, and UK has plenty of talent, and really needs to attract investment and jobs...

I've been going back and forth to Argentina since 2008 and while not always in a spousal status, I am aware of the immigration rules there. I will likely be a resident opposed to a citizen there as my spouse is here. It is by far sad for beings such as yourself Think to apparently believe that people with differing ideologies and nationalities must be at odds at one another. And furthermore, people can even get into full blown disagreements and still remain cordial. We use to do that here in the USA, but a populist asshole in the White House, much as the Kirchner's were, would prefer to have waring factions, it keeps the populists supporters in place. However, at the end of the day, the people eventually discover that all those bullets they were firing, were only blanks.
