#1: Batista, Odebrecht, Cunha, Renan, Collor, Maluf, etc, etc, etc - is the list endless?
#2: Isn't it a “NORMAL” practice among the crooks to open “Fake Overseas Accounts” - different accounts, in different banks, in different countries, and in different currencies [in names of the others] and hide their loot?
#3: Will they EVER return ALL the loot - with interest, correction & fine? OR
#4: Are all the “operations” & “investigations”; a FARCE?

#1 : Looks like it....(you left out the 'capo di tutti capi” or, the 9-fingered mollusc).
    #2 : Most definitely.
#3 : Unlikely...but if they are in prison, and unable to benefit from it, it's a good start...
#4 : No, despite what the politicians and the 9-fingered mollusc allege...

    Hi, Jack!

The “Capo de tutti capi” & Cabral are now “etc, etc, etc” :o))

The crooks which still are enjoying freedom & “special” benefits and continue to remain politically active; are a mockery to the investigations & the operations.

Batista could be the biggest fish and he may wave his finger at many more Important Capos which so far remain “hidden”! REF:“the Death of a Justice Helps the New Brazilian President”: http://brazzil.com/accident-or-not-the-death-of-a-justice-helps-the-new-brazilian-president/

The purposes/objectives will really be served; if a MAJOR portion of the entire loot will be returned to Brazil. So far what Brazil has received [OR lis “likely” to receive]; is - meaningless in value (less than 10% of the TOTAL) - merely “symbolic” in size/worth.

These crooks infest our Congress, and the only way to get them out - since looks like the STF will carry-on dragging its feet - is IF the “people” vote them out....the problem is that the culture in the NE, where most of these bastards come from, and have their electoral bases, is kind of 'different'.
Referring to the article in the link, Aline Piva describes Temer as the “current unelected president”...is she daft or what ? As far as I know, Temer was legitimately elected as VP with fatty Dilma, and in the case of the fat cow's impediment, the Constitution clearly states that the VP takes over....what is there in the Constitution that she does not understand ?
As to the conspiracy theories (about Teori's death) that are now emerging, the only reason I don't say it was accident and nothing more, is because it'll be hard to prove, either way...and even IF the CENIPA actually does discover and can prove what happened beyond even the slightest doubt, who's to guaranteee the truth will come out, and prevail over politics ?

    Very True, Jack!

    So, In short:

: There is a dire lack of serious political candidates.
: The system can operate effectively; only if it is corrupt - a “serious” candidate gets converted into a corrupt one.
: A candidate once elected; can never be “fired” easily.

The Political Situation = The Situation of the Jails - The Crooks are ALWAYS In-Charge! Their 2nd [& in some cases; 3rd] generation are already getting “seasoned”.

The legal-system - created by the SAME crooks - is full of loop-holes [escape-routes] - subject to interpretations. It permits The Crooks:
    - to earn extra-special privileges [+ the fat salaries],
    - to remain “active” in spite of their condemnation,
    - to escape with “Token Punishments” only.

And to make it worst; the majority of the population is either ignorant or apathetic or is more interested in the lottery results or the results of the football matches [besides women & carnival] and - luckily for the crooks - not at all interested in any “transformation”[revolution].

We are not apathetic, and we will prove it in the next elections.

    As I was saying, Jack:

Temer lifts infrastructure aide - MOREIRA FRANCO - to a “ministry post” [in spite of his involvement in various scandals]: http://www.reuters.com/article/us-brazil-politics-temer-idUSKBN15H2QC

THIS IS JUST ONE EXAMPLE; as there are too many of these crooks who fall into the similar “misadventures”!

As you can observe; slowly, steadily & stealthily - in a VERY cautious/surreptitious way - the crooks are being granted some sort of “protection” to remain as far away as possible, from the investgations & operations, from the prisons & the punishments and from the law [or whatever is left of it].

    That's not all!

The crooks give themselves a raise - in their status as well as in their salaries - when the rest of the miserable population is suffering from the high rate of inflation & high % of unemployment!

Earlier, THAT's what I called as a FARCE [tragedy in reality] of the supposed-to-be “serious investigations” and the dramatic “Operations”. Watch most of the crooks gradually escaping with punishments - for the name's sake ONLY - as the “Token Punishments”!

Agree that all (and any) politicians will use whatever expedient necessary to protect themselves....that is nothing new in Brazil....on the good side, if the 'reformas' are all approved, Brazil will come out the winner....and as to hoping, or expecting Brazilian politicians to, one day, put the people's interests above their own, you can forget it. The culture would have to change radically, and I don't see that happening any time soon.
At least, with the PT gang out, the Bolivarian dream has gone down the drain...I think that is what hurts the 'petistas' most, to realize that their dream of absolute power has been squashed.

    True, Jack!

REF: “expecting Brazilian politicians to, one day, put the people's interests above their own, you can forget it”: THST's it - says it ALL!
