Argentine Veterans and relatives of fallen in Malvinas had a surprise for Nobel Peace Prize Adolfo Perez Esquivel and his party of fourteen, including a founder of Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, when they landed in Buenos Aires airport after spending a week in the Falkland Islands where they travelled with a “peace, dialogue and sovereignty” message to the Islanders. The group led by Pérez Esquivel showed their total naivety during their few days in the Falkland Islands. After all these years surely they must, by now, have realised that, whilst they have their deep seated beliefs, so too have the Falkland Islanders.

    The sad thing is that the Argentine claim to the islands is based on fairy stories, myths, lies and mistaken interpretations of historical events and cannot be proved whilst the British claim is identified by factual events and documents. If Argentina truly believes its claim to be valid why don't they seek an opinion from the International Court of Justice in The HagueÇ

    ......because - deep down - they know their “claim” is bullshit and would never stand up in a Court of law. If they thought they would win they'd have taken the case before the UNICJ in den Haag years ago.

    We all remember the Argentina v Uruguay case they lost 1 - 14.

    Anyone care to guess where the one judge who found in favour of Argentina came from?
    Anyone.....?

    For all the Bull, they didn't attempt to speak to the FIG and turned down 2 meetings. The swimmers all attended the one, but as the peace pests didn't turn up they were offered a second chance. Not interested. They stayed quietly in their rooms when the MLA's had a meal in the same hotel. Never tried to speak to any Islanders either.

    So it was all for their own political purposes. What could we expect.

    I love the hypocrisy.

    Apparently, the soldiers sent to invade another nation's territory to satisfy the colonial/imperial ambitions of the Junta are “heroe-soldiers, they gave their lives for us all”, yet the men who liberated the Islanders are “imperial soldiers”.

    “For all the Bull, they didn't attempt to speak to the FIG and turned down 2 meetings.”

    Seriously? That really puts the lie to their claim that they were ”..going to try to establish a dialogue“.

    I think the FIG should mention this in any press releases they make on the visit.

    There is no translation for “dickhead” but I think that “hijo de la gran puta” will suffice!

    How can Argentina claim the Falklands when she has never legally owned them?

    “The Perez Esquivel group tried to establish contact with the Falkland Islanders but did not have much of a reply”.

    Lets be clear. This group made no effort whatsoever to establish contact with Falkland Islanders, and refused 4 invitations that I know of to have discussions with Islanders.

    Mendacious twaddle.

    “Which we have very clear is who killed them: imperial troops of Great Britain and their NATO allies, ”

    The man is a misinformed idiot ! However, if he says it long enough and loud enough it will become the Argentine”version of alternate truth.

    Yeah, what's that all about? We got some help from allies in NATO, but certainly not any troops.

    I guess their general point is understandable though. They want their relatives to have died for something, and fighting as soldiers, not just be considered more victims of the Junta.

    @Stoker
    Am I reading that right? The reporter went to the Falklands and interviewed people without telling them he was a reporter, then wrote an article about how paranoid 'Kelpers' are?

    The guy complaining about the cemetery to the veterans was just rude though.

    @DemonTree

    Yes....that's my understanding. I agree with what you say about the guy at the Darwin cemetery. My old Mum would have said “If you haven't anything nice to say don't say anything at all”.
    Mind you he then goes on to comment about the poor state of the “kelper cemetery” down the road which - from what i heard - fell in to disrepair after the Argies laid landmines in it and nobody could get in there for years.

    Another case where, when an Argentine mentions 'dialogue'. It actually means monologue or soliloquoy.

    Another bunch of arrogant, know all, know nothings.

    Rather amusing that the veterans gave them some stick when they got back.

    If any of this group were serious academics, they would at least 'dialogue' with Islanders, even if they didn't agree with what the islanders said.

    They didn't talk because they knew they were wrong, and not talking was waving the white flag especially when they announced that was one of their reasons for going.

    I was actually wondering whether they would be ignored by the Islanders when there was an opportunity to put their case to these people. But it seems that Islanders made every effort to 'dialogue'.

    And this group have even lied about that.

    @ Konrad Kurse

    “I think the FIG should mention this in any press releases they make on the visit.”

    Agreed, too many lies told by Argentines about the Falklands in need of correction.
