It is good to see that Mercopress while openly seeming to pander to British imperialism, officially acknowledges and accepts that any article regarding Antarctica belongs in the Argentina news section.

The couple and the “magistrate” should hopefully be arrested by Argentine Antarctica police however for forging a marriage document.

Now that would be interesting to see the Argentine police invade British AntarcticTerritory. Argentine law ends at the 12 mile limit from the South American mainland.

@Tr0lListic do you not know the difference between sovereignty and EEZs. In fact for ones law to apply one must be able to exert effective authority over the region. Argentina cannot do that at all.

@Livingthedream that just gives it the right to claim Antarctican citizenship if such a thing was ever established, it does not give any right of ownership. In addition, it was born on the Argentine base which I believe is in an area not disputed anyway. The birth will also have been legally registered in Argentina not Antarctica.

...and they had to go down to the British Antarctic Post Office to get the birth certificate stamped. At the same time they picked up the Daily Mirror and a packet of fags.

So does British law end 12 miles off Plymouth... reality my friends. Especially now that the EU won't be supporting British faux claims in the Antarctic, or even the Falklands (though I believe the Falklands are British).

Any person born in Antarctica has the same rights of self-determination as any other citizen, that trumps all other laws in the UN charter. Certainly trumps territorial claims. And self-determination cannot be taken away just because you don't live somewhere permanently, just like citizenship of the place you are born can't be stripped. All humans have the RIGHT to a citizenship and self-determination. Forgetting all evidence in favor of Argentina, just that alone has all other claimants doomed to failure. Antarctica is Argentine.

And power to enforce is pointless in the 21st century, since the UK has always claimed it has abandoned that approach (in order to claim some moral ground to tell others the same). So in effect, the UK is powerless legally, military, geographically. Not that it matters, since the newspaper, school, and radio station in Antarctica are Argentine. So all the culture, a big part of self-determination, was created by argies. Case “frozen solid”. :)

So Argentina claims the whole Antarctic continent on the basis of sending a pregnant woman there to give birth. Chile replied bu sending a married couple who conceived a child and then gave birth ! Your case is “frozen solid”. :)

Do you think the USA is going to let you claim the continent ?

Not a hope in hell sonny boy. The rest of the world will ignore your spurious claim.

troll-boy should read the Antarctic Treaty that Argentina signed, and understand how Argentina has failed to meet its obligations concerning recognition of that treaty. But yet another failure by Argentina to honour its treaties.... that would be just ....so very Argentina.

In the absence of provisions of the Antarctic Treaty, Argentina is simply unlawfully occupying the British Antarctic Territory, explored by and charted by and claimed by the UK long before Argentina's come-lately 1943 claim, conveniently at a time while the UK and the Allies were fighting the very fascist powers that Argentina was supporting.

When the Antarctic Treaty expires, toothless Argentina will be unceremoniously ejected from its reeking squats in much the same way that putrid lint is dislodged from a putrescent navel.

Trollyboy needs to get an education, international convention is that national territorial waters only extend 12 miles, however nations have internationally agreed EEZs. A nations laws only extends to its national waters that includes all territories it may have around the globe. Being born in a country gives you rights to citizenship not ownership. Like other nations we maintain an Antarctic Base 365. Hate to tell you Trollyboy but no one pays the slightest attention to argentine claims. But everyone knows that the Argentine interpret everything differently and always assume that it is in their favour.
