World wine production is having a historically bad year. Europe, home to the world's leading wine producers, is making wine at significantly lower levels than usual – and that's because of “extreme weather events” such as frost and drought that have damaged vineyards, according to the International Organization of Vine and Wine, (OIV) Read full article

Does this really affect us here in the UK ? We will just have return to beer or abstain ....probably the healthier choice.

Argentina produces some nice wines. You even see them in French Supermarkets these days. French producers of food and wine appear to be myopic, clinging to traditional products and techniques whilst being overtaken by more attractive stuff from the New World. Apparently young people are drinking less in the UK, ( except for Prosecco ), no bad thing...

Seems homebrew is a dying art. Decent homemade wine is easy to make at the fraction of the cost of buying it from a supermarket.

French wine has been declining for year, its awful these days and I wont touch it anymore. Rather have Chilean, Argentina or Australian. Far better quality.

Tiere is good French Wine from satellite appellation in Boudreaux from good to outstanding vintages. And wines from SW France apps like Madiran and Bergerac. Bulgarian and Slovenian wines are lovely steals. Portugal is still undervalued elegance. Austrian whites are now first class at a third of the cost of comparable German bottles, and if you can get a hand on a case of English sparkling from vineyards in Kent, buy it. In three of 10 years its near Grand Cru level at half the price.

Watch out for the terroir boom coming from Argentina now that the years of geologic and microclimate studies start coming in. And Medanos appellation in Buenos Aires province. Antipode climate analog to Bordeaux.

    Troll boy

Boudreaux ? I presume you mean Bordeaux ! Boudreaux is a proprietary cream used for skin infections such as nappy rash. Do you water this down and drink it ?

If you wish to pass yourself off as a wine expert at least get the names right.

From where do you get your cut and paste information ?

As for Austrian wines, I buy some and they are the same price as German wines here.

I bought a case of Fyne Ales from the brewery on Monday as I was returning from Benmore via the “Rest”

As to “tasting like pish”, whose pish have you tasted ? I have never felt the need to try it myself !
