Brazil's leftist icon Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva turned himself in Saturday to start a 12-year sentence for corruption after a chaotic attempt by supporters to stop him from surrendering. Surrounded by bodyguards, Lula had to push through a seething throng of supporters to get into a police vehicle outside the metalworkers' union building in Sao Bernardo do Campo, where he had been holed up for two days and nights. Amazing strength and incredible courage, that of a 72-year-old speaking for almost an hour before going to turn himself in--but not without once more defying the judge who sentenced him to come up with proof--any proof--of his “guilt.”
    Moro, on the other hand, does not consider proof is necessary; he has conviction and that is good enough.
    Brazilians, however, know the difference between the mob of crawling characters who won't even reach Lula's ankles but are decided to gang together to topple the giant.
    They are keeping guard near their leader day and night.
    Nobody knows the surprises that tomorrow will bring.

    Interesting to note : when Lula eventually emerged from the metalworker union's building, and was walking towards the sound-truck, he stumbled; after he climbed on to the truck, it was easy to see he was carrying a bottle of water, and started to take a few gulps from it. By the middle of his 55 minute rant, he was moving erratically, and was unsteady on his feet. Gleisi Hoffmann, who was watching him, circled him and discretely took a sniff of his breath, turning immediately to Dilma and saying “cachaça”...a bit later, when he finished his rant, a few people, including Hoffmann, tried to take the water bottle (containing the “cachaça”) away from him, but he wasn't about to give it up...he then disappeared into the back of the truck....at least he spent his last day of freedom doing what he liked best....to get drunk...or rather, second best, because what he really liked, was to steal and to lie.
    During his drunken rant, he was so far gone, that he actually blurted out, “if I could, I wouldn't surrender myself”....well, that was a really profound statement, specially after having declared, time and time again, in the weeks previous to that fateful day (5th April, that he would surrender himself immediately, and anywhere Moro designated if his appeals were rejected by the STJ and the STF.
    I wonder if they'll let him keep a few bottles of “51” in his cell ? you know, only for visitors...

    Prison cell? It's better than where Assange is living and he hasn't been convicted yet.

    How typical of trolls who don't have relevant arguments with which attack their targets.

    Can't speak to the man's record during two terms as president? No problem! Let's take something else. Anything useful for the purpose. So what Jack found? Lula was drinking alcohol during his speech before turning himself in to police!!!

    I am stunned by the finding. Certainly, Jack is a master of finding the juicy secrets of the rich and the powerful. Just a few days ago, Jack found out that an election campaign of activist Marielle Franco, coldly and professionally executed, “would have been funded by a gang,” a rumour spread by the scum of Internet and quickly revealed as a lie.

    By the way, have you noticed that the responsibles for Marielle's assassination haven't been found, even less arrested? Ever heard about any police action to find those who shot Lula's caravan? Noticed any reaction about the generals who threatened with a military coup if the Supreme Tribunal had granted freedom to Lula? I did not think so.

    Decidedly, some individuals will do anything to foster their cause...whatever Jack's cause is.

    TRUE!
    Thanx for agreeing with me! Besides the example which you mentioned [regarding Marielle]; the same is true in the case of the supposed innocence of Lulla.

    “whatever Jack's cause is”

    You sound ridiculous. Do you think he's part of some sinister plot? Not everyone shares your opinion of Lula or of what is good for Brazil. And Jack has spoken of Lula's record as president many times.

    @JB
    I found a video supposedly of Lula's last speech before going to jail, and watched some of it. I didn't see him drink anything, or holding a bottle.

    @EM
    You are obviously too thick to discover the truth by yourself, so please open the three videos below, and then tell me what you think…you might even be ‘stunned’. Marielle Franco, again ??? but you’re right, a rumour spread by the scum of Internet and quickly revealed as a lie…a rumor NOT spread by me, until all over the news…the fact her murderers haven’t been found, is no surprise, but I’ll still put my money on the ‘militias’ (cops and ex-cops, who didn’t like her ).

    “Whatever Jack’s cause is”....I don’t have a cause, just a desire to all the crooked Brazilian politicians behind bars, WHOEVER they may be, even a 9-fingered toad that decided he’d line his own pockets. Well Reekie, enjoy the images of your crazed, drunk hero.

    That won't work; it's a bug in Mercopress. The only way to put more than one link in a comment is to break it somehow, eg remove the 'https://' from the front and then it will appear as text. Like so:

    https://youtu.be/jqYuZA3hV0U

    www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RmKD4axXJE

    To be honest, if I had to go to jail for 12 years I might want a drink on my last day of freedom, too...

    Here it is, alone: Lula saying the “TripRex” is his (should be 'tripLex', but he can't pronounce it correctly).

    https://youtu.be/uBmfjC5w8pc

    I'd drink too, but Lula is known for getting drunk before speaking at political rallys (and in his home)...there are other videos circulating in which it is easy to see by his diction and body movements , that he's had too much.

    What did I say about Reekie ? I waste my time, showing him where to access the photos, the youtube links and he keeps on insisting Lula is innocent....he is a total waste of time.
