    Occupied lands and self-determination.

A number of countries and the UN are annoyed because they believe that Israel is wrong to occupy its post 1967 territory. Some believe that Israel has breached international law. The situation is not straightforward. To gain an understanding of the relevant international law and some UN attitudes (In the same respect the Argentinians believe that the Falkland Islanders are an implanted population)...

Presumably then Argentina will not be attending the World Cup in Russia taking into account the unprovoked shooting down of a Malaysian airliner and the deaths of thousands of Iraqis as the direct result of Russia's support, militarily and politically of Assad's regime.

Good for the Argentina team for refusing to be paons for Trump and Netanyahu's political ambitions as well as for a genuflex Argentine government anxious to please its masters.

The plot to involve the players in a political action benefiting the Israel occupiers began by announcing the game would take place in another city and only later moving the location to Jerusalem.

Let's remember that last December, the United Nations general assembly delivered “a stinging rebuke to Donald Trump, voting by a huge majority to reject his unilateral recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.”

As many as 128 countries supported negotiations over the status of Jerusalem – which is claimed as a capital by both Israel and the Palestinians.

Beside the U.S. and Israel, the countries in support of Washington were Togo, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Marshall Islands, Guatemala and Honduras.

@EM “paon” appears to be a french word meaning “peacock”. Relevance?

The historical record shows that Israel is right to claim Jerusalem. The “right” goes back at least 3,000 years. And there were no “palestinians” before 1948. Not much of a “claim” there.

The UN is wrong. The most charitable interpretation of its “position” is that it is one of “anything for a quiet life”. Personally, I am in favour of the State of Israel gathering up so-called “palestinians” wherever they might be and dumping on the eastern side of the River Jordan. And if a few get killed along the way, so be it.
