    Boeing wins subsidies dispute with Airbus at WTO

    Boeing chairman and CEO Dennis Muilenburg said: “Today's final ruling sends a clear message: disregard for the rules and illegal subsidies are not tolerated.”

    The World Trade Organization (WTO) has ruled that the European Union (EU) failed to comply with requests to end subsidies for Airbus. US Trade Representative (USTR) said the ruling in the dispute opens the way for placing tariffs on EU goods.

    Emirates Airlines saves the Airbus A380 with a US$ 16bn order

    Emirates is the only airline to have put the A380 at the heart of its operations and had been expected to place an order for more of the jets at the Dubai Airshow.

    The Emirates airline has announced an order for up to 36 Airbus A380s. The US$16bn deal amounts to a reprieve for the A380 after Airbus threatened to stop making the jet if it could not come to a deal with Emirates.

    Fifteen years of success for Airbus; backlog of 7.265 aircraft at the end of 2017

    With this year’s performance Airbus has steadily built on deliveries year on year – with 15 consecutive years of production increase.

    Airbus’ Commercial Aircraft deliveries in 2017 were up for the 15th year in a row, reaching a new company record of 718 aircraft delivered to 85 customers. Deliveries were more than 4% higher than the previous record of 688 set in 2016. The 2017 total comprises: 558 single aisle A320 Family (of which 181 were A320neo – an increase of 166% over 2016); 67 A330s; 78 A350 XWBs (up by nearly 60% from 2016) and 15 A380s. Furthermore, to cap this resounding annual production achievement, Airbus achieved 1,109 net orders from 44 customers. At the end of 2017 Airbus’ overall backlog stood at 7,265 aircraft valued at US$1.059 trillion at list prices.

    Super airlifter BelugaXL rolls out from Toulouse

    The BelugaXL is one of the most voluminous aircraft in existence, and everything about it speaks to that fact.

    The first structurally complete airframe for the new BelugaXL rolled out from its assembly hangar in Toulouse, France this month. Once operational, a fleet of these next-generation airlifters will be used to transport completed sections of Airbus aircraft among the company’s European production sites and to its final assembly lines in France, Germany and Spain.

    Airbus closes a deal for a 430 aircraft order valued at US$ 49.5bn

    The signed purchase agreement follows a Memorandum of Understanding among the parties announced at the Dubai Air Show in November.

    Airbus announced that it had finalized agreements with Indigo Partners and its four portfolio airlines for the purchase of 430 additional A320neo Family aircraft for ultra-low-cost airlines Frontier Airlines (United States), JetSMART (Chile), Volaris (Mexico) and Wizz Air (Hungary).

    Airbus takes a majority stake in Bombardier frustrating Boeing's strategy

    Bombardier CSeries will remain in Montreal, but a second assembly line for the 100/150-seat plane will be set up at Airbus's facility in Alabama

    Canada's Bombardier Inc. announced on Monday it has sold a majority stake in its CSeries passenger jet business to European aerospace giant Airbus for no cost. The move comes after lackluster sales and after the U.S. Commerce Department imposed harsh duties on Bombardier, charging the Montreal-based company is selling the CSeries planes in the U.S. below cost and receiving government subsidies.

    Japan's steel scandal of falsifying quality data has global manufacturing repercussions

    More than 30 non-Japanese customers, including Daimler and Airbus, have been affected by Kobe's data fabrication, Japan's Nikkei newspaper reported

    Japan's Kobe Steel has increased the number of firms it says have been affected by its data fabrication scandal from 200 to 500, and has also found “inappropriate actions” relating to nine more products, including falsifying data. Earlier this week, Kobe admitted falsifying quality data on some of its products for up to a decade.

    Airbus delivered 635 planes last year, but was below Boeing's record

    The European Airbus said it had 1,036 orders after cancellations, compared with 768 for the US company.

    Airbus delivered a record number of planes in 2015 but failed to dethrone Boeing as the world's biggest aircraft manufacturer. The European company delivered a record 635 planes last year, compared with a tally of 762 jets for Boeing.
