    Falkland Islands Reception in London

    Former Falklands Governor and FIA Chairman Mr. Alan Huckle proposes the loyal toast.

    Marking another successful year, the Annual Falkland Islands Government Reception took place on Tuesday 5th June at Middle Temple, London. Islanders in Britain, their friends and supporters, politicians, and veterans of the 1982 war of liberation met in high spirits.

    BOTs meeting on environment issues at 10 Downing Street

    Representatives from British Overseas Territories held a meeting at 10 Downing Street hosted by Sir John Randall, the Special Advisor on Environment to the Prime Minister. The issues discussed included Brexit, international platforms, renewable energy, climate change, HMG’s Oceans and marine protected areas agenda.

    Falklands Government reception in London on 5th June

    The reception is usually attended by UK officials, Members of Parliament, diplomats, Falkland Islands officials, friends and supporters of the Falklands.

    The Falkland Islands Government has announced that this year's reception will be taking place on June 5th at Middle Temple Hall, The Honorable Society of the Middle Temple in London.

    Falkland Islanders mark Commonwealth Day with a range of events

    On six continents around the globe, the currently 53 countries of the Commonwealth marked Commonwealth Day earlier in the week. The day included messages to the Commonwealth from Her Majesty the Queen as well as the UK Prime Minister, both of which have been covered by MercoPress. However, the Falkland Islands also reaffirmed its ties to the Commonwealth over recent days both within the Islands and elsewhere in the world.

    Liberation Day Reception, London Gratitude for the Past, Hope for the Future

    Falkland Islanders and their supporters met in London on the 13th of June for the annual Liberation Day Reception. This time it was special - it marked the 35th anniversary of the war. Guest of honour was Sir Alan Duncan, just re-appointed as Foreign Office Minister with responsibility for the Falklands; this was his first outside engagement.

    Four members of the UK Parliament are visiting the Islands Guests of the Falkland Islands Government; they are accompanied by Falkland Islands Government Representative in London Sukey Cameron MBE. Members of Parliament are regularly invited to the Falkland Islands by FIG.

    Changes to the South Atlantic Air-bridge: Brize Norton-MPA Falkland Islands

    An additional hand luggage allowance of 9 kg is now permitted in addition to a passenger’s defined luggage allowance.

    The Falkland Islands' government and the UK Ministry of Defense have announced that residents should be aware of recent changes to regulations related to travel on the South Atlantic Airbridge, Brize Norton/MPA.
