    “Busy and diverse tourism season” South Georgia tells IAATO meeting

    Vessels like Ortelius and Ushuaia, made 55 visits to South Georgia during the last tourist season

    In the Government of South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands’ annual address to the tourism industry at the IAATO (International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators) meeting in Providence, Richard McKee, GSGSSI Executive Officer summarized the 2013-14 season as “incredibly busy and diverse” given the 55 cruise ship calls.

    IAATO celebrates 25th meeting with growing membership and review of ports services

     Members voted to re-appoint Marlynda Elstgeest of Waterproof Expeditions as the Chair of the Committee

    The International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO) met in Providence, Rhode Island from 27-29 May for their 25th gathering of members and as at previous meetings, the goal was to review the past year and discuss current and future issues for the Antarctic tourism industry in line with the association’s mission to advocate, promote and practice safe and environmentally responsible tourism.

    Antarctica visitors up 9% in 2013/14 season, totaling 37.405, according to IATTO

    IATTO is holding its 25th annual meeting in Providence

    The International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO) announced its tourism figures for the 2013-2014 season, on the first day of its 25th Annual Meeting in Providence, Rhode Island. The total number was 37.405, up 9% with a growing prevalence of Chinese visitors.
