    Portugal, India, Indonesia and Spain win UNWTO awards for tourism innovation

    Attended by 500 participants from different countries the Awards Ceremony, emphasized how tourism has embraced sustainable and innovative approaches.

    Turismo de Portugal I.P (Portugal), Ecotourism Trust (India), Tryponyu (Indonesia) and SEGGITUR (Spain) are the winners of the 14th Edition of the UNWTO Awards for Innovation in Tourism. Fourteen projects among 128 applicants from 55 countries were selected as finalists of the 14th UNWTO Awards for Innovation in Tourism.

    PwC banned from auditing in India following country's major corporate scandal

    The ban by Indian market regulator the Securities and Exchange Board (Sebi) will come into effect on 31 March.

    PwC's Indian unit has been banned from auditing listed companies for two years, over one of the country's biggest corporate scandals. Price Waterhouse was auditor for Satyam computers when company owner Ramalinga Raju admitted to inflating earnings.

    A six-member women’s team of the Indian Navy will set sail in early September to circumnavigate the globe on the sailing vessel, INSV Tarini. This is the first-ever circumnavigation of the globe by an all-woman crew from India, and one of the calls will take place in the Falkland Islands.

    Chinese Navy launches 10,000-tonne destroyer

    The new Type 055 ship is comparable in size to the latest destroyers fielded in Asian waters by the United States, Japan and South Korea

    China's Navy Wednesday launched a new 10,000-tonne domestically designed and produced destroyer. The vessel, of the Type 055 class, is the first of a new generation of destroyers equipped with new air defense, anti-missile, anti-ship and anti-submarine weapons, and it is regarded as a challenge to naval rivals in Asia. The ship entered the water following a ceremony at Shanghai's Jiangnan Shipyard.

    PDVSA, India reach agreement on joint oil production ventures

    Venezuela and India agree on producing more oil but only for export purposes.

    Venezuela's state-owned oil and natural gas company PDVSA and India have signed accords worth $1.45 billion whereby oil production is expected to increase from 430,000 barrels per day to 855,000 in less than a year. Exports in mind, there is a natiowide shortage of fuel.

    BRICS summit, despite drawbacks ends optimistic and vows to deepen economic engagement

    India’s prime minister, Narendra Modi, called for doubling trade within the BRICS bloc in the next five years to US$500 billion, dismantling trade barriers and improving infrastructure.

    Amid fears of threats posed by protectionism, the BRICS countries have vowed to deepen economic engagement, tackle the global economic slowdown, and combat cross border terrorism. The leaders of the five emerging economies of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa wrapped up a summit Sunday in Goa, in western India.

    Mercosur-India talks expected to expand preferential trade agreement

    “We are largely interested in exporting processed foods and electronics to Mercosur”, said Sachin Chaturvedi, head at the Ministry of External Affairs

    India has begun the process of expanding its preferential trade agreement with the Mercosur trade bloc, opening its market more to South America and negotiations are expected to start in a month or two. The number of products on which tariff concessions is given is likely to increase to more than 3,000 from 450 at present with more agricultural products getting covered in the pact.
