France conditions EU/US free trade talks demanding exclusion of movies and digital media

PM Ayrault told parliament: ”France will go as far as using its political veto. This is about our identity, it's our struggle”

France threatened to block the start of free trade talks between the European Union and the United States if movies and digital media are not kept out the negotiations. Two days before EU countries are supposed to give the go-ahead for negotiations France said it would veto the talks unless the sector - that it sees as crucial to its cultural identity and under threat from Hollywood - is excluded.

EU and Mercosur to resume free trade talks at two events next January

The EU delegation will be made up of De Gucht,  Barroso and Van Rompuy

Europe waiting for Mercosur to overcome ‘Paraguay situation’ and resume trade talks

The European Commission remains “on hold” waiting for the evolution of events in Mercosur with the incorporation of Venezuela as full member and the suspension of Paraguay, before addressing a new round of association and trade negotiations.
