NGO Transparency Venezuela denounced through a follow-up that the Carnet de la Patria (homeland card), identity document devised by the government of Nicolás Maduro, is a tool of social control that seeks, among other purposes, the loyalty to the ruling party at the polls.
The U.N. children's agency UNICEF said it was seeing clear signs of a growing malnutrition crisis in Venezuela, but it lacked data to give precise information and to tackle the problem effectively.
The continuing fall in household income in Spain is causing many families to cut down on basic necessities such as food and it is estimated that a quarter of under-16, or 2.3 million are at risk of malnutrition, according to a recent statement by Gabriel González-Bueno, responsible for Child Policies at UNICEF in Spain.
Another two babies died of malnutrition in the Argentine northern province of Salta, totalling seven so far this year. They all belong to indigenous colonies in this case from the Wichi community living under subsistence conditions in non fertile areas of the province.
An Argentine incumbent governor from the northern province of Salta admitted in a television interview that at least five children died of malnutrition last year and so far this year another case has been registered. Cases involve mostly the indigenous population.
