France's foreign minister has said his newly-appointed British counterpart, Boris Johnson, is a liar with “his back against the wall”. In comments to Europe 1 radio, Jean-Marc Ayrault said Mr Johnson had lied to the British people during the recent EU referendum campaign and would now be under pressure “to defend his country”. Bojo will either put up or shut up; latter might be the best for one and all. I hope PM May has a suitably sized handbag to work on him.

Many Tories believe Mrs May has made a mistake with this appointment.

But Jean-Marc Ayrault is French. And the French lie, cheat, steal and surrender. Shut up, Jean!

Did he really write that poem?

Appointing a foreign minister who wrote a poem like that about the Turkish president is an absolute first, I'm sure.

He'd not have been appointed unless he is pinned down by a large pile of very capable underlings. And a “suitably sized handbag” (@1).

PM May's appointment of this Boris fella looks pretty much like an April fool's prank.

Boris was asked by the press if he had a lot of apologising to do about the things he had said. Specifically his remarks about Obama. Boris said, when it comes to the United States of America, they will be at the front of the Queue! (Remember Obamas statement on Brexit.). Classic Boris, don't underestimate the man, he's nobody's fool.

Boris went to Eton and would have learned from an early age when to keep his back against the wall. He may have told a few fibs in his time but who hasn't.
I reckon he'll do a good job despite this Frenchman's personal attack.

One day in the job and people are questioning May's judgement over this. What a great start!

It's not how you start .....it's how you finish that counts.
Boris and Theresa will do a great job for England.
    Have faith.

Give the man a bloody chance,

he will either get the job done,
    or he will fail,

The French have not always been the pillar of truth, Have they ?

    Oh the frogs.

French nationalism is surging at the expenses of euroism.

I'm not for sure Hollande will survive the diversity of France's populous.

I was listening to political commentators talking about Teresa May and Boris.
They came up with a convincing theory. They said that Boris was being kept out of any Brexit negotiations in his new post and that it was a clever ploy of T.M. to take the flak away from her as she gets on with the job. They compared her to Merkel who also lacks charisma, so Boris will no doubt act in his flamboyant way, take the Press attention away from the PM and eventually will be kicked into touch taking all the blame for his gaffes.
It was also interesting to hear their comments about her meeting with Ms. Sturgeon. They said it was business like, no histrionics , with two intelligent women discussing their points-of -view. No posturing as between Cameron and Salmond or macho behaviour.
Maybe we should have more women in high office.

To all the doomsayers on here regarding how unsuitable BoJo is for this post:

Well, he's got the job, you haven't, so let's just see whether you are correct shall we?

    At least he's not Hammond.
