Bolivia's President Evo Morales will attend the inauguration of Brazil's new president, Jair Bolsonaro, on January 1 in Brasilia, Foreign Minister Diego Pary announced Monday.
We have been invited and we are communicating that we are going to participate, Pary said.
Bolsonaro, in his Twitter account, said that his inauguration will not involve regimes that violate the freedoms of their people and act openly against the future government of Brazil in reference to presidents Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela and Miguel Díaz-Canel of Cuba, both allies of Morales.
However, Pary said that Bolivia is working fully on the basis of its Constitution, its Laws so Morales is among the guests. In our country there are all the corresponding freedoms, he added in a brief contact with the media.
Brazil's next top diplomat Ernesto Araújo, said at the weekend that Maduro would not be invited out of respect for the Venezuelan people.
But the Venezuelan government argued he was wrong, that Maduro had indeed been invited but had chosen not to oblige, while media reports in Brazil explained that the invitation to Maduro had been sent and withdrawn at a later date.
Bolsonaro has repeatedly asked that all countries of the world stop supporting Maduro and join forces to liberate Venezuela.
