James Glancy, the number two listed Brexit Party candidate for the European Elections in the South West and Gibraltar region was visiting here today and paid a courtesy call on the Gibraltar Government.

He is no stranger to Gibraltar having served as a Captain in the Royal Marines and the Special Boat Service where he was awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross for fighting in Afghanistan.

He recalls visiting the Rock as a cadet and training with the Gibraltar Regiment, and later embarking on HMS Ocean to Sierra Leone.

Although familiar with Gibraltar, he is a newcomer to politics and said he was compelled to stand because he felt politicians were undermining democracy and the present leadership is humiliating the British public on the international stage.

The British people voted to leave the EU and their wishes were being disregarded. He asked how we would have felt when Gibraltar voted to reject joint sovereignty in its referendum, had Jack Straw and Labour then continued with their sell-out.

In reply to the suggestion that Brexit was bad news for Gibraltar, he explained that although there might be short term issues, The EU agenda of federalisation and the destruction of nation states would ultimately be worse and should the EU create its own Army and Navy, the Spanish would want to base it here, controlled from Madrid.

If elected he would take a personal interest in Gibraltar and claimed that unlike Labour, who may promise a lot but cannot be trusted, his party was serious about supporting British Overseas Territories.

James is a passionate wildlife conservationist, and is deeply critical of the EU Common Agricultural policy and the effect of fishing in the Mediterranean. Since leaving the armed forces, he has returned to his childhood passion for wildlife and shark diving. He is now a Director of a conservation charity.

Although the Brexit Party is a new force, it is, he claims a very serious contender and he specifically wants to dispel the myth that people who voted to leave are stupid, racists or extreme right wing. Unlike some other parties neither he nor his colleagues are that. He believes in democracy and that the United Kingdom and Gibraltar has a bright future outside the EU.
