In an interview before traveling to the Argentine city of Santa Fe for the Mercosur Summit and published Wednesday by the BBC, Brazilian Foreign Minister Ernesto Araújo admitted he discussed a possible Conservative-Liberal Alliance with lawmaker Eduardo Bolsonaro, the president's son and likely to become the next ambassador to the United States.

”We talked (with Eduardo) about a common pattern on issues of Latin American politics,“ said Araújo.

He also pointed out ”Brazil is a part of a movement to recover the role of the nation as an actor in the international system, a nation that acts both domestically and in the international system.“

”In Brazil we have conservative values that are being affirmed (...) at a national level and in a certain way it also happens worldwide,“ he elaborated.

Last month US President Donald Trump was invited to visit South America this year and participate in a meeting of conservative leaders.

Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro, who is the representative in South America of a movement of conservative leaders created by Trump's former advisor Steve Bannon, has the support of his father to become the new ambassador to the United States, an issue that requires the Senate's approval.

Araújo and Eduardo Bolsonaro also expressed their concerns about the Forum of Sao Paulo, an organisation of left-wing parties created in 1990 by former President Lula da Silva and the late Cuban leader Fidel Castro

About President Bolsonaro's new approach at foreign policy, Araújo said that ”we need to do things that are important for the Brazilian people, not things that are important only for diplomats.”
