This is a clear example of the kind of cooperation needed to battle the Covid-19 pandemic globally, UK Ambassador Mark Kent said following the Wednesday announcement of the agreement for the production in Argentina of the vaccine currently being developed by the AstraZeneca lab and the University of Oxford.

“We are very pleased with this announcement from the Argentine government to begin production of the vaccine which is being developed by the University of Oxford and the British laboratory AstraZeneca”, Ambassador Kent said in a release from the British embassy in Buenos Aires.

“We need a truly global effort to address this pandemic because no country by itself can do it. And this is an example of the kind of cooperation that is needed at this moment”.

Ambassador Kent underlined that “this project between the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca has received 84 million pounds from the British government to help to speed the development of the vaccine against Covid-19.

The support from the British government ”is part of the efforts from the UK to boost international cooperation“

Ambassador Kent also mentioned ”the recent Global summit on Vaccines which we organized at the beginning of June (and helped to collect US$ 8,8 billion dollars from 32 governments and 12 foundations, corporations and organizations), or the virtual seminar organized with Mexico last week to discuss how to guarantee equitable access to vaccines, treatments and coronavirus tests in Latin America“

”Both events counted with the participation of Argentina and today's announcement is another step which reinforces this cooperation”, concluded Kent.
