“It is not that the person who is not vaccinated cannot enter,” Lacalle explained. “It is not that the person who is not vaccinated cannot enter,” Lacalle explained.

Uruguay's President Luis Lacalle Pou Tuesday admitted his government is evaluating the implementation of a “green passport” for admission into public shows.

The President explained a pilot plan is under design to facilitate access to public shows of people who have either been vaccinated against covid-19 or can produce a negative result from a rapid test available at pharmacies approved by the government's Electronic Government and Information Society Agency (Agesic).

Lacalle Pou said there was a team made up of representatives of the Executive Branch, the Presidency and the Ministry of Public Health in charge of developing that plan. “It must be made clear that this is not restrictive, and it is not that the person who is not vaccinated cannot enter,” the President said. In the end, the owner of the premises of the organizers of the show will have the last word, he added.

“There is a detail in which I want to be clear; if a person wants to enter a public show and does not have the vaccines, they must take the test at the pharmacy that has a control system provided by the Electronic Government and Information Society Agency,” Lacalle stressed.

But he also insisted this was a pilot plan, and there is still no start date. But “the sooner it is ready, the better.”
