
F/V Falcon, the latest trawler from the Falkland Islands Fortuna fishing company was launched on Wednesday at the Nodosa Shipyard in Vigo, Spain. The vessel will now undergo further completion works, leading to sea trials later in the year, and ready to join the Falklands' fleet for the first Loligo season, commencing February 2021.

Falklands' fishing company Fortuna Ltd and their Taiwanese partners Go-Rising exhibited at the Brussels seafood show last week.

The Falkland Islands will add to its registered fleet a state of the art trawler which should be operational by 2021 belonging to a local joint venture company, Petrel Fishing Company Ltd. In early 2019, the Board of Fortuna Ltd approved the construction of a new trawler to join their current fleet of five trawlers. The vessel will be owned and operated by Fortuna Joint Venture Company - “Petrel Fishing Company Ltd”.

One of the Falkland Islands leading fishing companies, Fortuna Limited has launched a shore-based safety training course for the crew of illex jiggers set to operate in the Islands in the illex squid season. Some 900 crew-members are expected to undergo the course, which is being held every day over a two week period.
