Chile's National Automobile Association (ANAC) announced Wednesday that Korea has taken top spot as Chile's new vehicle provider.

For the first time Korean brands lead all car sales, with a 28.5 percent market share. Korea has displaced Japan, which now accounts 24.7 percent of the all sales. Meanwhile, Argentina garnered 10.3 percent, and Brazil accounted 6.6 percent of all car sales in Chile. ANAC hopes to reach 210,000 in new car sales this year, 10,000 more than projections from the start of the year. First half sales grew 12 percent from the same period last year, and totaled more than US$ 1.77 billion. For the first time in Chile's history, ANAC sales surpassed 100,000 the first semester. "The growth in sales is associated with a stable economy that generates confidence in the people. As well as a low exchange rate and easy and convenient financing, which permit us to adjust the figures of growth for this year", said Ivan Silva, executive vice-president of ANAC. Chileans' most preferred car models are the Toyota Yaris and Chevrolet Corsa, of which 7,860 and 6,425 vehicles were sold respectively. The Santiago Times
