President Barack Obama singled out a Bulgarian university student who published an article on the functioning of democracy in the Falkland Islands, to take part in a youth forum during the NATO summit in Strasbourg reports Sofia news agency, Novinite.com.

Nusha Lyubomirova Ivanova is a fourth-year student at St. Kliment Ohridski Sofia University. She has vied with thousands of her colleagues across Europe to win a place among the lucky ones who will meet with the world leaders.

The chosen students number 350 from 57 countries. They joined discussions with leading experts and journalists. The role played by NATO in guaranteeing world security was one of the main topics. The forum was opened Friday by NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer.

One of the requirements of the competition included an essay, CV and motivation letter. For the first time the candidates were singled out in the US instead of the past practice when each of the states picked its own participants, the Bulgarian daily newspaper Standart reported.

Ivanova has other achievements to be proud of - she is the first Bulgarian student who has travelled to Antarctica. Nusha also published an article about the Falkland Islands after visiting the parliament of this self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom.
