Falklands send message of sympathy and support to the Chilean people

The Falkland Islands government sent on Tuesday a message (in English and Spanish) of sympathy and support to the Chilean people “at this terrible time of tragedy”.

Gilbert House, seat of the Falklands Legislative Assembly

The message on behalf or the Falklands people and signed by the eight elected members of the Falklands Legislative Assembly underlines that in the Islands live many people of Chilean origin and “as neighbours we share in your sorrow and hope that you will soon emerge as a stronger nation from these tragic events”.

The message addressed to Your Excellency Michelle Bachelet, President of Chile, Palacio de la Moneda, Santiago reads as follows:

To the Chilean people:

On behalf of the people of the Falkland Islands, who count amongst their number many people of Chilean origins, we would like to extend our deepest sympathy to you our neighbours, at this terrible time of tragedy.

We hope that our message helps to let you know that you are not alone and that we, here in the Falkland Islands, together with the whole world is praying for an end to the terrible events that have afflicted your country.

As neighbours we share in your sorrow and hope that you will soon emerge as a stronger nation from these tragic events

The message is signed by Jan Cheek, Dick Sawle, Roger Edwards, Emma Edwards, Sharon Halford, William Luxton, Glenn Ross and Gavin Short, members of the Legislative Assembly of the Falkland Islands Government.

Mercopress, Falklands are not recognice for any country: US, Spain, France, Latin America (chile included) , Asia, UN.. so please dont make effort to show that they are a legitimy state,,, BECAUSE THEY ARENT.

nitro and others- how sick can you get trying to play politics with the death of near 800 and the devastation and ruin to many thousands now homeless and left with nothing. Nitro - for pity sake - get your facts right for once - USA,Spain,France etc and Chile and Uruguay and many others ALL recognise us as a country and with a government(some of them may well give you a vote at the UN - but they actually recognise that we are here and there is a current Govt - with whom they all deal and recognise as the current Government.
As afar as I am aware there is only one nation that refuses to recognise that we are actually here and exist - that is the Argentine one.
Spainish companies with the backing of their Govt are investors here and hold many longterm fishing licenses with their local partners.
China sometimes obtains fishing licences as does Chile - from the Falkland Islands Govt.

Nitro:

You don't need to be a state to send heart felt condolences you moron...

And this was from the democratically elected govt of the Falklands not the Guvn'or.

and anyway how can the Govenor of Tierra del Fuego be the Govenor of territroy which:
1. Has never democratically given her a mandate.
2. doesn't have a permenent population (South Georgia, Sandwhich Isles, Antartica)
3. Which you haven't been able to apply effective control over since 1827.

I love NitroJohn, he is so full of incredible bull that I love come and read his babble and have a laugh at how dumb he and a few of his mates like George are. Just a shame he has to bring sad pathetic politics into something as heartfelt as a message of support for a country(Chile) who is friendly with the Falklands.

Didn't Chile have a consulate on the Falkland Islands at one time? A sure recognition of its status, no?

hey! thank you Nitro fan,,,, I keep you informated: i was dumb cause i was traveling.. Now i am in B.A. visiting family, friends... on sunday i ll fly to Rio Gallegos and then maybe a week before Mt.Pleasant....and return to Ushuaia... I am respectful about the message of support of the islanders, as i am respectful of the message of all the Argentinian governor (Mendoza, San Juan, etc) this states/provinces have representatives in B.A. ,too. The comments from the cheep nationalism are irrelevant (they have first to stady the difference about: state/territory/nation/objets from the international law) it is simple.
