PM Cameron repeats ‘re-colonization’ argument for Gibraltar and Spain

Repeating his recent statement regarding the Falkland Islands and Argentina, British Prime Minister David Cameron said the UK backed Gibraltar’s right to self determination and that to go against the wishes of its people would amount to “re-colonisation”.

“We stand for self-determination” said PM Cameron

PM Cameron made the statement in response to questions from a Spanish Popular Party MP during an address to the parliamentary assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg last week.

Spanish MP Pedro Agramunt from the ruling party Partido Popular asked for Mr Cameron’s views on decolonisation, and got the following reply.

“I am not sure whether the last part of your question was on Gibraltar or the issue of the Falklands, which has been raised recently” Mr Cameron said.

”I have a very clear view: we should stand for self-determination, and as long as people in a part of the world that is part of the United Kingdom, effectively, want to remain with that status, far from being de-colonisation, it would actually be re-colonisation to go against their wishes, and that is the case in all those instances”.

Meanwhile Gibraltar Chief Minister Fabian Picardo, Chief Minister, warmly welcomed, on behalf of all the People of Gibraltar, the words of Mr Cameron defending the right to self-determination.

Speaking from London, Mr Picardo said: “This is one of the clearest ever statements in defence of our rights by the most senior British politician. The Prime Minister put the position as it is, and as it must remain, in totally unambiguous terms. The fact that the answer from Mr Cameron was in response to a question from a Spanish person clearly confirms that the Prime Minister understood exactly the message he was sending and to whom”.

Picardo added the had written to the Prime Minister to thank him for the clarity of his words and the robust, unequivocal and unambiguous position set out by him for the British Government in respect of the rights of the People of Gibraltar and the forthright stand he has taken on the matter.

Don't blame the chap, he's just too busy working on the demolition of social care in Britain to take a look on the historical facts and diplomatic status of the conflict.

Conqueror a dictatorship is not democracy...go back to school maybe you learn the difference....
oh by the way i read that article from the guardian...im so impressed the way the british press tries to distorts the reality....
i read in The Times to british people saying to negociate the islands, and not because of that is that the british want to give back the islands...as in everywhere there are different opinions...
but saying that a growing number of young argentinians are questioning the malvinas...LOL and i though the argentine press was sensationalist...obviously i hadn't seen the british press...

PM says

re-colonization argument for Gibraltar.......

I say :

This British spider web lets the City get involved in business that might be forbidden in Britain, providing sufficient distance to allow financiers in London plausible deniability of wrongdoing.Much of the financial activity hosted in that places breaks laws and avoids regulations elsewhere....
The overseas territories the ring in the spider web ,are the last surviving
outposts of formal British Empire..with just a quarter million inhabitants between them they include some of the world's top secrecy jurisdictions..the Cayman Islands,Bermuda,British Virgin Islands,Turks Caicos Islands ,Gibraltar.

“Astonishingly this is today a country that stands on the brink of destruction, torn apart by apathy, petty regionalism, self-loathing, and cultural decay”

This year, will be the year of the British [truly]

Everywhere you look, every telly you turn on , every radio , you will see or hear the British celebrating, it will be the year of celebrations,
And we invite the world to watch in awe, and celebrate with us .
We are even arranging front row seats on the beaches and cliff tops
Of eastern argentine beaches, so you all can watch the distant fireworks in the night sky,
Now isn’t that very nice of us ,
So enjoy the British celebrations and be happy

.
