Argentina hosted 5.7m tourists in 2011; iconic names play a significant role

Argentina has become the most visited country in South America with arrivals in 2011 reaching almost six million tourists, said Leonardo Boto head of the country’s National Tourism Promotion Institute, Improtur.

Evita, Malbec, tango, Che Guevara all help create a mythical attraction

Boto said that the excellent performance can be attributed to several factors among which, Argentina’s natural attractions which cover the whole arch from the tropics to Patagonia and its glaciers; from the Atlantic beaches to the Andes mountains, but also the favourable economic situation of the region particularly since 2003 and regional expansion since the “largest number of arriving tourists in Argentina come from the region and continent”.

The official also pointed out to the legal and institutional framework supported by the new Tourism bill, the creation of the Tourism promotion institute which has helped promote Argentina overseas and particularly in Latin America.

He also mentioned some brands and icons identified with Argentina such as Evita (Peron); tango, beef, Malbec wine, Che Guevara, Maradona, Messi, “names that have a magic attraction for many tourists”, said Boto based on opinion polls.

“Of the 5.76 million arrivals, almost a million and a half are from Brazil” said Boto and “Evita, tango, beef, Malbec, Che Guevara, Maradona are very strong intangibles, almost mythical and a magnet for them”.

Boto also mentioned Argentina has a huge extraordinary access door as Buenos Aires, a classical continental European city with all its majestic avenues, buildings and green spaces. “Then you have the glaciers, the falls, gastronomy that goes beyond the traditional barbecue, such as the Patagonian organic lamb, fish from the deep Atlantic, Antarctica and the mighty rivers from the heart of South America, plus all the aboriginal foods, flavours and spices from the northeast of Argentina”.

@2 ''The only problem with Argentina is the argentines!''

You are generalizing. Don't judge an entire nation just because our politicians are downright corrupted or some people are heavily brainwashed.
There are good people here too.

As much as i hate a lot of people in this country, i try to stick by my ideals and avoid putting everyone in the same bag of scum.

Who wouldn't want to visit Argentina, it is a beutiful country. I suppose diplomats would avoid it bacause of the she-beast that runs the place and companies will avoid it becuase of the tendacy of the government to pinch things that don't belong to it but tourists are fine right?

you are right, i stand corrected, what i should of said is.
“The only problem with Argentina is the offensive argtard scum” :)

that way my offensive comment is only offending the offensive Argtard scum, if it offends the offending argtard scum then they should not be offensive argtard scum by offending greater people with their offensive argtard scum comments, that way my offending “offensive argtard scum comment” will only offend the offending argtard scum of argentina with their offensive argtard scum comments.

No offence to the few decent argentines ;) , just the general offensive argtard scum!
an alternative view!

Enemies tend to be regarded and act like scum. If we weren't enemies, our opinions of each other would be different. But we are enemies, this is not 1912 anymore, when we were buddy buddies, and you had more trade with us than with your own Indian subjugated colony.

Yes we know, hence the reason we have militarised the South Atlantic. Just think, if you left the peaceful Falkland Islanders to get on with their lives without fear you needn't ever see another UK Soldier, Ship or Aircraft again. Simple really isn't it?

If we weren't enemies, our opinions of each other would be different
. But we are enemies…

It’s all in your head,

We have no enemies,
Mr Cameron loves all of you, just ask him,

We just want to be friends; this is now a public reference,

So if you consider us as enemies, it must be in your head.

All this bullshit-related forum insult trading crap aside, do you really consider me your enemy? In real-world terms do you really think we would have nothing in common? Your command of the English language portrays a very intelligent man, at least thats what I saw, but I wonder..... How seriously do you take this forum?
20 Truth_Telling_Troll (#) Aug 22nd, 2012 - 01:21 am Report abuse

I don't consider “you” an enemy of “my” person. But your country is an enemy of my country, perhaps things should be different but they are not.

It's like the soldiers on the battlefield. The person you have to shoot at did nothing to deserve it personally, and you did nothing in particular to deserve that person firing upon you. If not for that little small command “destroy them”, they'd all probably go together to get some cold ones.

It is just circumstances that brought that about, things beyond the individual's control.

“My country argentina have the best pizzas, the best raviole, chorizos, pollo al horno, panqueques, flan, the best red wines, the best purses and leather jackets, the best of all....”

The best Pizza's are from the original land, Italia... no doubt. Same with Ravioli (come on, try to get an own identity!). The best Chorizos = Spain, pollo al horno (wtf?), panqueques = creppes = France.

Argentina best Red wines?
Are you f*cking kiddin me?
This is the silliest one of all. You do not even have the best wines of south america...proven on every Bruxelles Wine Fair where Chile violently kicks your *ss again and again as best wine Producer of the Americas and never get's tired of.

ARG: 36 medals (thirty-six)

Is obvious you ate my country .....
and you don't like to accept the fact that Argentina immigrants were the spanish, italian, and french. In Buenos Aires you can hear these 3 languages be spoken the most!
Previously, I have said, argentinians owes to these countries the good food such as pizzas, raviole, spagetti, chorizos, polor asado, panqueques, flan and wines.
I have travel to several countries where I found Argentine Restaurants, but never I did find a “Chilean” or any other southamerican country restaurant.
Even Seattle has the famous “El Gaucho” Restaurant near by the Space Needle with its famous restaurant.
In Tehran, Iran I found argentine and mexican restaurants, same than in Madrid, Rome and Paris.
Referenced to the olympics I am glad my country the USA is the best, better that the UK.....yourrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr shithole country.
So long!

If you have a different taste, so eat and drink whatever you want....
I am not forcing you to eat the spanish, italian or french food from my country Argentina.

@ 31 Generic Gay Briton

The UK team started to insult my argentine president with offensive words such as:
“that woman smells”...“turkey neck” “her vagina neck”..
that is very abusive.....
but, you did not stop the UK team...you approve it!...
You want to make Argentina, the argentina leader and argentinians look inferior....
YOU had refer argentinians as RATS....Why?

I get very upset when I read the UK team insulting words...
Why don't you remind to Conqueror to stop inflicting viewers with mental cruelty stating he wants to kill all argentinians?
I repeat, my country Argentina don't have any interest about your UK.
The argentine president like former and future argentine presidents have the responsability to present a claim on the islands.
But, this does not mean that you and the UK team are making the situation worst insulting her, my country and the argentinians with very offensive words which is unacceptable.

Mercopress is fed up with you and the UK team.

You and the UK team have the choice to express your comments in a civilize
manner so why don't you remove Conqueror, Zhivago and Isolde offensive comments?
