Interesting for a couple of reason. Firstly the number of people protesting, more than I expected. I was in Argentina for the last one and government supporters (in general) were saying that the numbers showed that no-one really supported the protest.

Secondly, the fact that people were coming from the south of the city. Obviously there will have been a huge amount but it is still important to bear this in mind. Again, last time the government supporters said that no-one came from the south and this was just an upper-middle class issue. Furthermore they said that, given that people from the south are poor and have to walk miles to get into the centre, it is a really big deal for them as it involves considerable sacrifice. As such, seeing people coming from the south of the city points to an erosion of support for the government. Whether this erosion will solidify, spread or contract we don't know. However, the interesting thing is that this bastion of support seems to be wavering.

Seems like a damp squib to me. Wonder how many made up their minds to attend at the last minute because they were angry about the power cut - if they discover Macri did it they'll turn their anger on him! Any Argentines wanting British style austerity and maybe a British style, Tory Party style government, should do well to ponder this seminal report by the mainstream news in my country: http://www.channel4.com/news/the-past-on-trial

lol @ some of the pro-CFK responses in this thread.

seriously, 100s of thousands march in protest, and its called a “damp squib”.

I guess if they took her out and shot her it would be more traditionally considered a serious protest then?

    -------------

“It's not like they are still there, mate. They all went home...”

Indeed, I think some people are getting carried away: they are forgetting the rather useful “lets rewrite history” technique of this Argentine Government..by next week this protest will have been written out of all history books and pompous ministers will say “What protest? DO you see anybody protesting? SURELY if there was a protest we would see something?”

in total, fairly unbiased seriousness, it is hilarious... you couldnt make it up! :-0

    -------

“”“ We Argentines don’t tolerate any more lies, bullying, authoritarianism or arrogance”.”“”

wouldnt it be nice if that could be true of all governments all over the world?

    Some March .... some Ides!
Over a million Ides, all marching for a better life.

(This happened once in England ... a million people marched to right a wrong, ... but Blair never gave up either ... he lied his way into history and took world conflict to new levels.
It can happen even in the most structured societies.
“I hear your voices but I am not listening to your message.” )

Listening to massed unarmed marchers has never been popular with governments with their 'backs to the wall' and loss of power being the only other option.

@2 & 3 Still desperate to claim that you represent argieland? I don't care. As far as I'm concerned, argieland still has 41,281,631 war criminals. Plus the cowards that flee overseas. Guzzle is in the top 10. As is Twinky, Islas wherever, “gutless of Canada”, “Margo the fart”, “Burger King”, the Scottish Necrophiliac Ponce representative. Please look up while I have a crap.
@7 I agree. Signs should have read “Let's just kill the cow.” Or would that, despite the constitutional right to protest, have been illegal?
@13 You would know. Would you like a list of common criminals? If you use Wikipedia and look at the article on “Argentine government”, there is a list of the 17 commonest criminals in argieland.
@27 Hang on, Burger King, in a few years you too will be able to live like an argie. This is the route. Scottish independence. Scottish poverty. Scottish bankruptcy. Scottish starvation. Scottish plague. Scottish who? More lebensraum for England!
@32 Serious suggestion. Lamp post. Meat hook. Piano wire necklace.

BUT. The word for ordinary argentines. Depose your corrupt, criminal “government”. End your criminal, false claims to the Falkland Islands forever. Grow up. Pay your debts. Try to act as if you understand the 20th century. The 21st may take you a little longer. Recognise that the law is what it is, not what you'd like it to be.

CFKC blathered on about 'never yielding' BEFORE the march. I suspect she will go as she has been ramping up her 'illness' again, cancelling her trip to Spain because she 'must not have any additional pressure'.

If one million marched, there will be ten times that who agreed but couldn't march.

@33 I agree about the anti-war march in the UK and Blair ignoring it. The difference is that we do not have a history of violence towards our Prime Minister. CFKC is in mortal danger if she hangs around too long and ignores her excitable people.

Through a statement, presidential doctors “advised against” the trip to avoid the “extra effort on your agenda” and the “jet lag by the time difference” with Spain. Last week the President had had an episode of fainting on the suspended one day his agenda. But he said in the text of the Presidential Medical Unit a strange calculation: said to attend the Summit will need 40 hours of flight, when in fact the flight to Spain takes between 12 and 13 hours.

I think there is opposition but they are keeping quiet for now. We have seen how Maximo's attack dogs go after anyone with an eye on the presidency. When she is forced to go they will step up.

Very clever move of the opposition not to be leading this protest. It is a real cross section of the population protesting her crazy politics. CFKC's biggest mistake was to take away freedom of choice from the people. Argentines do not like that one bit.

The obvious lack of credibility of posters like Guzz, Marcos Alejandro, British Kirchnerist is examplified very well by their poor responses to this article. One doubt's your true patriotism when you can support such an inept government which is dragging its people on a downward spiral.....what are they paying you fools to sprout such garbage....are your eyes open.....or are you asleep at wheel.

As for these trolls comments on the Falklands.....complete jokers.

Personally, I know three decent Argentine families here in Sydney, Australia, and they migrated here in recent times to find the opportunities in life that they could only dream of their former homeland. They are all employed here and are fine citizens....and none of them have expressed any interest in returning home.....with fools like our trolls running their current government, that is hardly surprising.

I think you will find the majority of them do live in Argentina or SA (if they are indeed real posters not just another troll alias).

Most are aliases for the 2 or 3 Argentinian / Cámpora puppet-masters that troll this site.

You will notice that at different times of the day they seem to have different personalities and command of their command of English changes.

At times they will use their aliases talk to each other, another ploy is to bring in an alias to just to divert attention from the topic under discussion.
It is quite common for them, when they are losing an argument, to make inane comments such as “Yawn”, bring up the “Chagos Islands”, “the British killing innocent children”, refer you to another crazy conspiracy website.

    Dear All,

The protest last night did NOT ask for CFK to resign, go, drop dead, or any other “get off the hook” manouvre, what we want is for her and her ministers to LISTEN to the needs of the people, to RESPECT our desire to live without continual confrontation, and to do something positive about the REAL problems of Argentina such as: INSECURITY, GOVERNMENT CORRUPTION, INFLATION, GOVERNMENT LIES, NON COMPLIANCE WITH HER PRE-ELECTION POLITICAL PLATFORM to name just a few.

It would be nearly impossible to impeach her because of the make up of Congress, and that she would be succeded by Boudou the “Hundred peso king.”

''Then all I am asking to each of the Argentines, and especially to the ruling classes, to say what they think and what they want for the country. Nobody will feel offended or will be disturbed”, she stated.''

Whether she actually does is another matter. Mind you, in the same piece linked to, she says there is ''a constant expansion of rights'' to which neither Guzz nor ProRG could explain why there is the 15% tax for spending abroad, or the Dollar clamp, yet still be an expansion of rights.

And despite the considerable number of people demonstrating we should take pride that it passed off peacefully. Argentina has come a long way in 30 years etc

    CFK's agenda seems to be:

Keep growing her 'retirement fund' (Wouldn't it be ironic if that stash was in the Cayman Islands, a British Overseas Territory).

Keep the populace in delusion at her ineptitude ( she's failing on this, and she's played the Malvinas card too much recently).

Screech at any opportunity in any place with other nations present.

Use membership of the G20 as a platform for saying Argentina is more developed than she has allowed it to be.

Nationalize as much as possible because then it can massage her ego feeling that she has more power and control over more people.

Let us hope that at the next election, the people of Argentina get someone who genuinely have their best interests at heart and not power crazed loonies like her.

#98 Welcome back Think, and well said =)

#122 But you're one of the most rabid haters on here, ganging up with the British nationalists and American capitalists against your own country every time, are you really saying you're a member of Binner's party, the one Think also supports, when you're on the opposite side from him of every argument?

#126 ”She could have said humbly 'well, we recognize that there are problems and many argentines are unhappy with various issues and we respect their right to demonstrate. And despite the considerable number of people demonstrating we should take pride that it passed off peacefully. Argentina has come a long way in 30 years etc

    Instead their response was

''yesterday (8N) something important happened - The new chinese communist party congress'' CFK”

Gotta love the humour there, the woman is on fire =) Why should she settle for boring platitutdes when she can make her point with such style and class?! Though she DID note, more eloquently than you, and as Think, ProRGAmerican, Guzz myself and others have, that the protest pased off peacefully, unlike when the right ruled, a point your side have had some difficulty with...

#132 Great links, and great articulate words from Cristina. I particularly liked the one about her sadness that some Argentines support the vulture funds, something that saddens me too - and even more so that Africans are fighting for them after what they did to that continent. I might switch from mercopress to Telam, they should get a forum going, maybe if they did we'd get to meet better posters there =)

So good to see everyone on here supporting the 1m plus in their peaceful protests, sadly it seems the regime leadership has not appreciated the depth of dissatisfaction.

Also very heartening to not see anyone make light of the very real struggles facing the average Argentine due to catastrophic mismanagement of their country. Certainly some decent patriots here, not blinded by regime subterfuge and distraction techniques.

It is very important to note who, of all Argentineans, went to bang pots to the street. And perhaps more importantly, who didn't, purposely. Most people went to the protest stating their frustration, but without clear demands, other than a increasing surveillance and control as a way for reducing crime (the official policy is reducing crime by reducing poverty and empowering the justice system, instead of by adding more police). There was also a lot of uninformed opinion taken by journalists, like “stop corruption” (without proof, or even stating what or who precisely), “basta” (stop, stop what?), “we don't want her” or “go away” (to be replaced by whom exactly?), “nobody can't stand her” (when actually, more than 50% of the population loves her and would vote for her again), “there's no separation of power” (presenting no evidence for such an absurd and preposterous claim).

Macri (head of government in the city of Buenos Aires), and other politicians of various parties (even opposing ones) attempting to bank on the protest, stated obvious and useless remarks like “People are being heard nationwide joined by a single flag” (the Argentinean, of course, the same one waved by the president's supporters!). The protest was, more than anything, a cry of desperation for not having a representative opposition with a reasonable plan and having any chance at winning the next elections.

Denmark sent troops to fight an illegal war, government (with Anders Fogh Rasmussen in charge) lying to it's population about their reasons as to why invade a sovereign nation. They also let CIA flights land on Danish ground to transport civilians to different secret torturing camps, all against every international treaty they've signed themselves. Rasmussen went to become the general secretary of NATO...

Does this figure in your “corruption list”?

Matter of fact, the ones making your “corruption list” are the most corrupted in this planet, and your list isn't even appropiate for toilet paper...

The fact that USA comes 4th in your “human development” list is rather alarming. If you classify school massacres as positive development of humanity, they we might have a problem...

And frankly where would man be , without women giving birth to them.

The only thing sacred today, is life its self, to which certain individuals care not, when they slaughter the innocent.

If alien is filthy, then this would have to include ones self, as others of your belief may not //will not // do not live in Argentina,
And thus may think yours is filthy.

Man will never be free, as long as we have greedy little corrupt brain dead indocronoughts, that have no love of care for his fellow man,,, and woman..

Foreigners irrationaly dislike us, my feelings were engendered by the behavior of the outsider, not by the nature of my character.

I trully loathe arrogance and hypocrisy, the two qualities most evident with foreigners I have met here.

If a gem is one upon a million ordinary stone, it is for its quintessence and no further intervention is necessitated. And if a man is not righteous from his very conception, then no trials and no tribulations can alter his form, but only compound it. If he is righteous, trials will make him even more judicious and sage; if he is not, then trials will only serve to further contort his wretched soul.

BP? The UK government could solve world peace and make the UK the richest country on earth tomorrow and they would still be despised, you see we in the UK aren't blinded by the words of politicians, the Iraq war began and the vast bulk of the British public came out against Tony and Co, as opposed to the Falklands were hundreds of thousands of Argies came to BA cheering on a dictatorship that was murdering them. Money? As I just said the British public were against the war and were outraged by the oil revelations, were as I just said in regards to Argie land were you all came out cheering.

A UK poster mentioned that Guzz was banned.

He is certainly absent - could be “off-shift” or gone...

One one thread, Think was on a roll, on attack, when “theSwede” appeared and had a conversational exchange with him through a couple of posts. Guzz had been absent for awhile, but “Swede” was very familiar with Think and used a similar style to Guzz.

I identified the “Swede” as “Guzz” on my post reply.

The next time I logged in, the entire post of “the swede” was deleted.

Perhaps Guzz's IP had been flagged. Guzz had been challenging the credibility and integrity of the editors of MP.
