“Economics degree from the University of Buenos Aires” - University of FAIL

”Cenda think-tank (Centre of Studies for the Development of Argentina)“ - A not-think tank perchance? as I don't see any development.

”She is a personal friend of Axel Kicillof“ - Personal Friend of Mr Business Failure himself. Woopee woo.

”Ms Nahón is married to an Aerolineas Argentinas manager, Sergio Garcia Gomez and they have two children.” - Married to a manager at the biggest business failure the world has seen, and where did that $2billion for new planes given to La Campora go?

Need I go on? This is yet another stooge that the americans will quite rightly refuse point-blank to engage with at any kind of diplomatic level. She looks like the 'shouty' air stewardess they sent to london, but this one might actually know who marx is, and why his economics never worked.... ever.

'I like marx, he's dead interesting, I even read his book about shades of grey, and I did a part time degree, I'm dead brainy me, that Kicillof is dead good, he loves marx too, and my husband works for that company that's doing really well.... repeat donec mortuus'

Her clearly dyed hair aside, where the hell do they find these people? Are they supposed to be diplomats? Do they know what the word means?

What a career ride for Amb Argüello: United Nations, Washington DC, and now Lisbon... another way for saying he's been put out to grass! That's some nice recompense for spinning all those awful Falklands lies for the Kirchners.

I am not sure what her looks has to do with anything, however, with words like “militant” and “marx”, it's should seem obvious to the people of Argentina what direction asslips is moving in. Argentina is fast becoming the new “Venezcubina”.

    Restricted trade
    government controlled media
    one party rule
    government owned economy

At any rate, it's the people of Argentina that are losing. ANyone is better than Arguello. I suppose that she can't be worse than Arguello and maybe she can get past the security gate at US State......lol. That will be farther than Arguello ever made it.

Putting someone so young and inexperienced in such an important position idiotic and probably suicide for Argentina.

She may finally be the one who gets their Embassy status revoked.

Maybe that Isolation thing Toby keeps harping about will really happen!

My guess is it will take Argentina at least 1 generation to fix all the damage this nutbag has caused.

I like Lisbon and Washington DC but in diplomatic terms it is a demotion. Washington DC is the premier diplomatic placement. It really is the hub of power, whether we like it or not. :)

It kind of does matter what she (or a he) looks like in diplomatic circles. It would not do to turn up to meetings with bare shoulders and bed-hair if you want to be taken seriously. However, as I suspected, that is not her usual attire in the picture.

No matter who they put in as Ambassador the doors are shut to Argentina.
The USA has already put in motion a punishment for boarding our Military Jet. We will destroy them. All legally slow and steady so we can watch the pain. We have done it before and we like that method.
It might be hard to sell SOY when you can't do it with the U$. That punishment isn't just reserved for our Militaristic Enemies.

Yes, I agree with Elaine too.

Note: at 10 I am making a declaration of personal preference, not a reference to Argüello's career path. However, if I were Argüello, I would be doubly happy. Firstly going to Lisbon and secondly being distanced from CFK’s inner circle.

So doubly happy and doubly stupid, that's me ;)

Hey! I didn't call Condorito stupid and I want to make that clear. I think he was stating that it is not a bad place to be posted and I agree Lisbon is a lovely city in a beautiful country. My point is that it is an inferior diplomatic posting.

Not all US Ambassadors are titled but they usually are awarded a title on retirement if they don't have one.

Lisbon, Madrid, Athens... none are going to be a great political posting. The most important thing about this article is why didn't this lady pay a better hair salon to do her hair? It looks like she dyed it herself, in the dark, in front of a strobe light with rotating mirror walls to disorientate herself.

Is she called 'roots' by her friends?

Andy, It was a very brief skirmish. Frankly I think it shocked the US personnel, we were invited in to do Police training, Timmerman boarded the jet with Customs Officials and a TV crew and as soon as they de-planed the jet took off without RG clearance. The Customs officials confiscated a few communications devices then returned them after an official complaint.
That was the end of any good relations with the USA.
That's when we started voting against them at the Int'l banks and when they were denied meetings at State and Prez, they lost their trade preferences (16,000 layoffs in Mendoza's wine industry is a direct consequence). There is also a bill in Congress that will bring them closer to the isolation they want and deserve. It should pass next year.
Of course we're doing it all legally, Slow and Steady so we can watch the pain.
    I love the USA!

@27 Isn't Timmerman an american citizen? His extended family all live in the USA (and israel of course) and he maintains a minimal footprint in Argentina, as he and his family spend most of their time in the USA. I think they were mainly educated in the USA too. Curious that he would then be annoying the USA, a country to which he holds allegiance and deep influence amongst the jewish community in NYC.

The United States is not a major diplomatic post for Argentina. A debtor nation that increasingly must grovel to China in order to not founder on its arrears is not a seat of power. They have no control over their national budget, how could they wield puissant sway on anything else? Those halcyon heydays are fading memories; now the United States lingers principally because of past reputation (fumes). Argentina does not have an exigent agenda with them that requires the appointment of some sagacious diplomatic doyen. And besides, checked the murder rate for the US capital? 23 per 100k... 23!! Many districts look like Port-au-Prince after the earthquake. Were the murder rate in Buenos Aires as high as that, the goverment would have been toppled long ago.

I personally think Argentinian ambassadors are expected to utilise a machine that is a cross between a Van der Graaf generator and a centripetal fairground ride with a desk in the middle where they are expected to get dressed and do their make-up. Once they have completed the 10minute experience they are then forcefully ejected into a press conference where photos are taken.

This is what I've heard from sauces in Argentina, allegedly.

As for Arguello (Who has clearly pissed off someone he shouldn’t have), whist Lisbon is undoubtedly a backwater posting in diplomatic terms when compared to Washington. He may not be too unhappy with it, nice quiet life till retirement (and going back to Argentina????), after all if you have the money nowhere is a bad place to live, it’s just cheaper for you.

@72 DC is not even in the top ten now, they have some of the strictest gun controls in the US. Detroit is still the trophy holder.

I think there has been a lot of redevelopment in DC over the last few years. I visit often and don't feel at all at risk, though there are some pretty bad suburbs. The 'ripple effect' has turned some of the dubious areas into expensive real-estate and added a vibrancy. It is a city hard to beat for great restaurants.

Yeah, Portugal is going through a tough time and the last time I was there they had a lot of refugees moving in, maybe they will be moving out now. It didn't spoil the city which is surprisingly attractive.

People are still trying to figure out what I said.

flagitious = like a criminal in vice and scandal
    display = a public showing
conniving = to predend ignorance to a wrongdoing
    chutzpah = completely unrestrained shamelessness
raunchiest = most vulgar and dirtiest.

“This flagitious display of conniving is chutzpah at its raunchiest.”

“This criminaly scandalous like vice public display of pretending to ignore such wrongdoing is completely unrestrained lack of shame at its most vulgar and dirtiest.”

Why use 25 words when 10 is better?

Aerolineas Argentina is over run by La Campora (if not owned.) Cecilia Nahón is married to a manager there and a close friend of Kicillof too. It's not hard to see the link. You need a certain mindset and be part of the inner circle to be in Cristina's Government. I can't help but wonder when Timmerman will lose his job ( not the right mindset, you know..)

Detroit holds the record in per capita murders but not raw numbers. However the USA is still nearly that same as Argentina in murders. However, it is a bit difficult to compare data sets on thew two countries because of the population sets...one 40 million versus 316 million.
FYI Elaine, my state, Massahcusetts and New York have the strictest gun controls in the country. You will find that the most permissive states are the most outbackish and rural.

And since he is talking about something completely off-topic...

I guess I can remind some here that all the great writers and philosophers from Socrates to Cicero to Ghandi, Eistein, Churchill, Twain, Borges... all said at some point something like this:

”The measure/touchstone of a society/civilization is (determined) by how it treats the poor/it's children”.

I don't think being a country where children are 23 times more likely to be gunned down and blown away than in all other OECD nations helps in that cause...

@98 Argentina fails to feed its (brown) children so they starve, and the white children they fail to educate them and instead brainwash with stories of nazi expansionism and nationalism through a terrorist organisation aligned to the executive branch of the government. I think your philosophers would have unanimously given argentina a zero in it's judgement.

Why bother going to Argentina anyways? you'd just get lied to, shot, and finally have all your stuff stolen off your beheaded corpse? Better that you go somewhere good instead.

I'm not argentinian, because I have a moral structure, a backbone and I don't like theft. As a non-argentine, I think it's pretty disgraceful how they treat their children and poor people.

However, if I'd have been brought up in argentina, and brain addled through school doing lessons like 'the joy of stealing', and 'cheating level 20' and 'Learning about Adolf through Peron' then I'm not sure what sort of psychological state I would be in either. I'd like to think I could reject these teachings rather than end up being forced to join Maximo's terrorist group.

Certainly if I was born brown skinned it would have been terrible because mullet-strokers treat their first nations people terribly.

    It's difficult to know.

Trying to find someone with the samae marxist believes and that she can send to the USA and at the same time not offend as much as arguello did. Being educated in the UK she apparently has some knowledge in economics, but at 39 years old and no diplomatic experience............why would the USA accept her creditials?

I am sure she will be a shoe unless she comes up with some militant or criminal background. If she has an attitude like asslips kirchner, she will make no progress whatsoever.
I know many of us non argentines want to see argentina pay the price for breaking treaties, thunmbing their nose to the developed world, defaulting and stealing 70 billion US dollars, repressing their people, restricting trade, clamping down on freedom of the press, but I disagree about her being the last ambassador. That would imply that diplomatic relations has ceased, which in effect the one of the final steps before war. Even though for all intense purposes diplomatic relations have been none existent (one sided.....arguello asking to be seen), they will remain open.
USA is competing in SA (save for argentina) with China and China's economic strength comes from selling to the USA, it's number one country and the EU the number one trading union. China is feeling more of the strain of this recession than the USA is and that leaves SA vulerable economically. SA does not even hit 1% of China's exports, so they see nothing in SA other a vast barren land to gather raw materials from. That's all SA is to China.......natural resources for Chinese needs. SA will learn, not no from their historical mistakes, they never do.

Good news =) I think we're going to be hearing a lot more of this young lady as the K left develops a new generation of leaders; I could easily see her eventually take the position of one of her predecessors, Timmerman, and maybe one day even President?

#1 I think she looks pretty =) And certainly a cut above the boring formal look the prudish Elaine seems to assume for diplomats! Since you're on the subject, do you agree with me that Cristina is a beautiful woman? Does she look “portena” (as I here in Scotland don't know what the typical portena look is!)
