The government of President Cristina Fernandez has decided to revoke non-automatic licensing requirements which had been placed on certain products before they could be imported into Argentina for consumption, according to a resolution published Friday on the Official Gazette. But earlier in the week Argentina increased the import tariff on a hundred products to the maximum authorized by WTO, which is 35%. Read full article

They probably take a fifth of scotch before creating their ridiculous trade policies. Even Venezuela complains. I guess these people got their degrees in economics from the same non-existent clown college where Cristina got her law degree.

AS an underdeveloped country, AR can not produce many products and materials, CFK must be living in a dream land to substitute them by products produced in AR (which can be extremely low quality or no working junks). Good politicians know all these issues, but she is a very, very bad politician in terms of economic matters, though her records on human rights, etc. are good.

First off, we do not call it vacation that's an American word, second where ever “we people went,” we never had to apply to our Government for the money to go there or had list taken of what we took to be checked against what we brought back. Last but not least, our so called slide into misery pales by comparison to the world of shit that miserable place you call home is in. Your own head of state dare not even use one of your Aurcraft for fear of having it seized to repay your debts. She hires British, probably do the same next time she takes a “vacation.”

    36. Usually the richer people travel Jan 1-14 then others go the 15-31 and if you want to get really cheap hotels you go after Feb 1st. The weather changes pretty dramatically in Mar Del Plata and PDE so by Feb it is a little chilly to be on the beaches there. This nasty wind picks up and it rains a lot.
I heard that this year there are lots of vacancies though, LOTS, instead of 2 week almost people were only booking 4-5 days and spending 40% less in the bars and restaurants.
There were also a lot less foreign tourists who spend significantly more than RGs so I bet you'll see many Hotels, restaurants, bars etc closing for good after the season is over. Even BA has a 40% vacancy rate which will probably bankrupt the Hotels if it lasts too much longer.

Yeah, that's Argentina's fault too, what a sawdust of a mind you have, and bitter and hateful against another country to boot you even blame the weather on it!

It is an absolute fact that AR is still an underdeveloped country, with nothing to compete in the world market as to manufactured goods. It has only poisonous genetically modified corn, soybean, etc. which nobody will buy for eating in the EU, The UK, Japan, Russia where GM food is prohibited. The US will not buy AR products as they have similar agricultural products. However, AR has some well educated people, who read good serious books.

Toby, Most UK/EU/USA tourists go to BA in Dec/Jan because it is cold up here and warm in BA. So a large vacancy rate in BA in Jan is shocking and it may turn out to be catastrophic. The hotel industry also over built so I bet you'll see lots of closures this year. BTW most everyone in the good hotels/restaurants/clubs/stores speak English. They have to. Even my main maid spoke English with me because her son went to the British School and she wanted to practice.

I lived at the only real 5 star hotel in BA for a couple months during the last collapse and I know people there very well and they are very concerned for their jobs because it is so slow. I am not implying the Four Seasons will close but lots of others will.

I don't like any of the beaches in Argentina or Uruguay, in MDP the sand is wet and it is so windy most people have tents to keep out of the blowing sand. It was really weird to see it the first time. Also the water is Brown and freezing. I will never go there again it's gross.

I also think PDE is completely overrated. Again it's super windy and there is absolutely nothing to do any other month but January. I used to go to the Conrad every couple of months to renew my tourist visa. It was a cheap and easy trip from BA but boring boring boring.

Kinda like California beaches then... anyone ever wonder why Americans don't promote this beaches anymore? They used to in the 50s, 60s, 70s... well because they are beaches in the middle of the Great American Pacific garbage patch, which is in fact the world's largest refuse dump... and plastic and all kinds of other crap washes up daily there. They have to close beaches all the time, and the waters are horribly cold to boot.

Then you have the “gulf”, which is a horrible place because the beaches are crowded with people that consider someone who is 100 kilo at 1.80m tall as anorexic. Oh, and they have balls of tar oil wash up daily there... yummm..

And then the eastern beaches, which are toxic cesspool from North Carolina and points north (and the beaches are awful), and south of that you have to run for your life every two weeks during the tropical cyclone season.

And then there is Hawaii the most overrated “paraside” on Earth, where a liter of milk cost what four liters do elsewhere, and you walk the streets where everyone is on HARD drugs (Crack, cocaine, meth, etc), and many unemployed.

I think that sums it up.

And there we have it lady's and gents the future Cayman island of south America. 35% seems like a fair trade to get what busynesses want, we can all agree that freedom is possible in a world where everything is accounted for.
Good job by CFK! I being wanting to see something this simple for a long long time, apparently there is less restrictions on taxing, than the restrictions on out right banning products. Let's hope more products make that 35% tax list to simplify things a little.
Mean while in another part of the planet
”With an average income of around KYD$47,000, Caymanians have the highest standard of living in the Caribbean. According to the CIA World Factbook, the Cayman Islands GDP per capita is the 14th highest in the world. [31] The islands print their own currency, the Cayman Islands Dollar (KYD), which is pegged to the U.S. dollar at a fixed rate of 1 KYD = 1.25 USD. [32]

The government's primary source of income is indirect taxation: there is no income tax, capital gains tax, or corporation tax. [13] An import duty of 5% to 22% (automobiles 29.5% to 100%) is levied against goods imported into the islands. Few goods are exempt; notable exemptions include books, cameras, and infant[citation needed”

Everything we have is nicer, cleaner, safer and more beautiful than anything you have in your country. I am not saying Argentina isn't beautiful but you have to look past the filth, graffiti, garbage and dog poop to see it was once a very beautiful place before Peronism ruined it.

Even the beautiful mountains around Bariloche you have to look past the graffiti all over the rocks. It is very sad you don't respect your own country and that you can't be bothered to clean it. Something is really wrong there.

You know very little about how modern ecomomy works on these days.

Export is not the same as production because you can buy the stuff abroad and resell it to other market without producing anything at all.

For Example Ukraine with the gas from Russia, Oil from middle east, electrical appliance from China exported by Britain, etc, etc.

For your knowledge, Argentina produce and export, machinery, cars, telecommunication devices, electrical appliance, boilers electrical and for gas, nuclear reactors, nuclear fuel, radioactive stuff for medicine, capsules for medicines, medicines, monomers, polymers, manufactured plastics, software, tubes for oil, machinery for oil and gas industry, toys, textile fabrics, shoes, manufactured food, commodities, raw materials, conventional fuel and bio-diesel, wine, comestible oil, wood, leather, furniture, porcelanato and ceramics for floors and tailing, iron, wires, Arms, stainless still manufactures, etc, etc.

Britain since 1970 had been destroying her industrial sector in favour of the speculative sector and banks.

What kind of Briton are you having no clue about that?

    @yasu

Of course you have ever been in Argentina and you have no any idea of what you are talking about.

If you can find anything really produced in Britain just call me because the last time I was there and the economy was ok everything was coming from abroad.

Ok I know that you produce Kebabs locally in large amount to feed your population.

The economy of the UK has been financialied, resulting in decline of manufacturing industry, but it is still producing some excellent medicines, good luxry cars such as Bentrey, Jaguar, and military headware, and what is important is that it still ranks high in terms of good science and technology education. Though declined, it is one of the leading nation. As a whole, the EU has been declining in economy and manufacturing. Germany is still manufacturing but its reputation far exceeds the reality: no new drugs, no high technology but living based on the old technology and lies. For example, its computers are either IBM or Japanese (for example, Siemens computers are all made by Japanese company Fujitsu, and BASF computers are by Hitachi, another Japanese company. France is just invading other African countries, spreading terrorisms and the major indusrtry is military without any high technologyy. This leaves only the US, Russia and Japan in terms of high technology and excellent science. Though, the US has big problems due to its high debts to China and Japan, the financialization of its economy, but it has still some advantages in that differing from AR, it still attaracts excellent engineers and scientists. No scientists want to go to AR to work. Russia has hugh human resources due to one of the best educations even after the collapse of the USSR, thanks to Putin. It has one of the best military technology and furthermore, its civilian manufacturing and research have started to revive. China does not have any high technology yet, and still trying to steal technologies from Russia as to military and from Japan as to civilian technology. Russia refused to sell fighter planes as China copied SU27 and produced much inferior copies, only the appearance is good without any high performance. Japan has high tech and manufacturing, and the living standard is the best in the world, no beggars, no homeless, no hungry people in spite of slow growth in GDP.

Regarding the story though, I think this is another case of too little too late. Brazil has NI doubt told CFK in no uncertain terms to stop these illegal practices, especially when it could have a knock on effect with Mercosur's trading ambitions with the EU.

CFK realising that her only real friend is close to shuffling off this mortal coil, is looking to placate her more powerful and savvy neighbour.

Good grief, do they teach economics in Argentina? Whenever there is a post about anything to do with commerce or economics from an Rg is it easy to see how the gov't can steal generations of wealth and get away with it. They are really ignorant in that country.

Speaking of UK technology I was watching a very cool TV show about the manufacturing of the new Typhoon pilot's helmet. Wow they are cool! That is an amazing piece of technology and craftsmanship. I think they said they cost more than a Ferrari. I love watching shows about new military devices/equipment.

All you need to know is that there is a 35%tax for most imports to Argentina, and we are fine with it, If any of you have a problem with it, we are really really sorry but Argentina also has the right to self determination and there is nothing any outsider can do about it, that's all there is to it.
Mean while in another part of the planet,
”With an average income of around KYD$47,000, Caymanians have the highest standard of living in the Caribbean. According to the CIA World Factbook, the Cayman Islands GDP per capita is the 14th highest in the world.[31] The islands print their own currency, the Cayman Islands Dollar (KYD), which is pegged to the U.S. dollar at a fixed rate of 1 KYD = 1.25 USD.[32]

The government's primary source of income is indirect taxation: there is no income tax, capital gains tax, or corporation tax.[13] An import duty of 5% to 22% (automobiles 29.5% to 100%) is levied against goods imported into the islands. Few goods are exempt; notable exemptions include books, cameras, and infant formula.[citation needed]”

I am not a British, but Ihave to tell the truth: the UK is still one of the most developed countries which manufactures much better products than Argentinian, which is still an underdevelped country (though beef is good) can do. Just consider how many Argentinian got Nobel Prize in medicine or scient as against the UK which has many Nobel Prize winners. If my memory is correct, Argentina has one , which is better than Spain. Argentina does not have Newtons. This is a big issue and problem for CFK, who wants to substitute products made in Japan, the UK or the US. Argentina can not make any of a similar quality. So stop being a stupid arrogane Argentinian, which does not have anything.

Argentina workers employed in the industrial sector: 3,91 millions

Any decent industrialised country employs around 20% of its work force in the industry sector Argentina employs 23% of its work force.

UK hardly can arrive to 8% because there is noting much to produce.

Do not talk nonesense. Most of the highly developed countries, the population engaged os the decline. However, you have to include the productivity, and the quality of work, as well as their technology. Argentina nationalists or chauvinists like you always talk nonesence like CFK. Can Argentina make any advanced tools, TVs, fighter planes or civilian planes. Is there any Argentinian brand car. Is there any Toyota or GM? Stop talking stupid things. Just remember Argentinian industrial products can not be found anywhere in the world, stupido.
It is true that the UK, the US and the EU have huge debts owing to China and Japan. There are only few countries without any external debts: Russia with foreign currency reserves of 500 billion dollars, which want to reduce the euro in its potofolio, and Jpan has the world largest assets invested in foreign countries, much more than China. CFK is hulcinated without any knowledge about economy or industry, as she is just a lawyer. Lawyers are the ones without brain, they just talk like Obama.

Obama is the criminal Numero Uno, killing innocent people by dronr, try to be a dictator by approving many illegal laws such as NDAA. So CFK is an angel compared with Obama, Hollande of France (fascist war criminal killing innocents in Mali), Sarcozy who killed Gaddaji thereby allowing terrorists to spread throughout the North Africa, and soon in Europe, especially France (Japanese Foreign Ministry issued to day warning for Japanese the dangers travelling to France).
CFK is excellent in jailing war criminals, ex military officers who killed many labor union members, students, and other who were against the dictatorship imposed on Argentinal, Chile, etc. by CIA. However, CFK is causing huge economic problems by her ignorance on economy and financial world. This is really bad, as this situation affects other South American countries adversely. Naturally the current world economic problems in the US< the UK and the EU adversely affect all the world but there are many countries which will be affected less, such as Russia, South American countries, even China and Japan.
Argentinian politicians including CFK should understand their responsibilities in leading its economy being less affected by the world economic problems so that South American countries to grow and to improve their technology, etc..

Ha ha you are really a funny.

The x% for Britain or Argentina or Germany or whatever country represents the share of the x sector in the composition of the GDP.

The x% or worker represents the work force employed in x sector.

1-As you can see in Argentina are more workers working in the industrial sector than in UK by percentage and quantity. Full stop nothing to argue about it.

2- Because you talk BS as always you should know that Argentina labour laws are not like in UK where exist the hire & fire. They are full employed with far, far, far, social advantage than in UK.

3- Salaries if you would read the articles published here in Mecopress instead of wasting you time basing everything that have the name of Argentina on it, you should know that salaries according with popes of the industy like paolo Rocca is U$S24 per hour.

“But Rocca’s point is an interesting one. He says wages in his sector, at $24 per hour, far exceed those in Mexico ($12) and Brazil ($9); “ mercopress and FT.com

4- Expertise? Are you joking? from whom UK? On what? Can you tell me please?

if you buy shit from china like everyone?

The fact that you have plants of Toyota, Honda, Ford, etc. does not mean that Argentina is an advanced country, rather an underdeveloped country when foreign companies make their products according to their technology by using cheap workers. It should also be noted that the quality of their products is bit lower than those made in Japan or in the US. Argentians can not say that they make TVs, etc. by their own technology as the technologies are most licensed by other countries.

    Do you mean AR$24 /hr??

You seem to think that's a lot.
    AR$24 = US$5.33 official rate.
    = US$3.20 black market

    4.1. Minimum Wage

As from January 1, 2011 the minimum wage shall be of AR$ 1,840 for workers earning a monthly salary for a full time legal day's work and AR$ 9.20 pesos the hour for daily workers. The only exceptions to this rule are wages paid to apprentices and part time workers, who may be paid less than the minimum wage.

    AR$9.20 = US$2.04/hr

And you just added a 35% surcharge to all Imports.

How productive is that workforce? How sustainable is that?
Didn't Vale mining halt $6b US of mining in Mendoza??

35% of workforce in industrial sector - is that 35% of GDP, too?

But Trade unions negotiate with companies the floor of the salary for they sector that are much, much higher than the minimum wage. Like in any other labour advanced country in the world. Not UK of course.

“You can have lots of people employed, but what is the productivity?”

”The Committee for Minimum Wages, which is composed of government, employees and employee representatives, establishes minimum wages for the country. Since 1 September 2012, the general minimum wage is ARS2,267 and since 1 February 2013 the general minimum wage is ARS2,875, regardless of the worker's age and experience (as at 1 August 2012, US$1 was about ARS4.67).”

    Jan 1 2011. AR$1,850
    Feb 1 2013. AR$2,875

    Min wage % increase in 2 years = 55%

Have all wages gone up that much?

Last year, INDEC released Inflation rate of 10%, so I guess that's good then?
Some say, based on price of goods, inflation was actually more than 25%.
Do you think that is true?
    Higher prices + higher wages?
I guess everything is ok, then? :-)

What about raw materials or components purchased from abroad, for manufacturing? Is this all relative?

    March 2011:
    US$1 = AR$4.02

    January 2013:

    BA Airport Rate
    DOLAR (*)

    Comprador$ 4.95
    Vendedor$ 4.98
    Fecha de Cotización28/01/2013

Peso devalued 20% in less than 2 years.

    Good, right??
Your exports are cheaper for those buying from you, right?
And your imports are restricted? Good?

Didn't Dilma Rousseff of Mercosur, and Angela Merkel of EU refer to those restrictions as “protectionism”?

Isn't the “black market” price for US$ around AR$7.50, with projections for further devaluation this year?

Some of the comments are the ones which can only be made by those who do not know any economics or technology like CFK. It is true that Europe is on the decline both economy, technology, manufacturing and science. They will become countries with beggars, homeless like France which has 1 million homeless now, an deven Germany has not come out with any truely important inventions, no new drugs, its computers are made by IBM (US) and Fujitsu and Hitachi (both Japanese). As to Argentina, stupid dreams can not make it a great country. It has to learn technology from much more advanced countries such as the US and Japan, and Russia. Then, grdually it will be able to produce some good products, but generally speaking Argentinians are truchos, they like to make quick money. And they are really good on doing that.

An American sells mortgages to people that cannot pay.
Then he sells it to a little investment bank (securitisation) the other big bank put a good marketing an packs all that crap with a good name on it like SPM and sells it to an English Banker.

The English Banker turns into another good name like SIVs and sells it to Japanese or eastern investors.

And if that ends up into a complete mess then a good manipulation of the Libor works as good as a fresh cake.

I would like to ask all those free trade strong defenders, the following question, could the u. k., u. s. a. or any other country which is considered like a powerfull industrial country, to develop powerfull industrial sectors, without stablishing any protectionist measure?.
The day that many of you leave your tipical hipocresy behind, and have unless one line of intellectual honesty, which is necesary to discuss about something so complicated like politic decisions are, that day, we will be able to have a mature and honest debate about them.
You don't need to be so hipocrite, and criticise so hardly the protectionist measures that our govt. took, because we all know that actualy all the countries are protectionist, including your developed nations.
On the other hand, you all know perfectly also that if c. f. k.'s govt. didn't take any protectionist measure, and if she signed some of those so called free trade agreements, we wouden't have recovered any of the industrial sectors that we could recover since 2003, in fact, that year we had 80 industrial parks, now we have 300, beside, in 2011 we sold 20000 millions dollars of agrarian manufactures, and 29000 millions dollars of industrial manufactures.
However, there is still a lot of work to do, in order to develop a powerfull argentine industry.
Beside, if some of you are so critic of the protectionism of our govt., then explain me why can't arg. export it's lemonds and mets to u. s. a.?, but please don't argue the tipical hipocrite argument, about sanitary reasons, because we export mets and lemonds to others countries, and there is not any denounce fo a sopsed lack of sanitary conditions of our products.
Understand once and for all that we don't need the products that you can't buy because of your economic crisis, we still have planty of problems, in fact the 34% of our workers are not registered, and we won't improve their situation signing any of the free trade agreements that you want arg. to sign.

All the countries try to protect their industries, which is often wrong, and there is the WTO which is supposed to have rules for fair trade. It is always a balancing act between protecting domestic industries and being open to the world market. To protect the domestic markets and industries, many countries use all types of excuses. For example, the US was forced to open its market to Argentinian beef, but when there was foot and mouth disease in Paraguay, it stopped beef import from Argentina, and now it is impossible to buy Argentinian beef in the US. This is wrong but they do to protect the domestic farmers.
As to agricultural prodects, many countries have conditions specific to a country: for example, Japan has only small farmers, which the government has to protcct in order to maintain some self sufficiency of domestic food supply, though now Japan imports about 60% of food needed from other countries, especially from the US. Argentinian can not export its soya and corn to Japan and also to the EU, Russia, etc because sota and corn are genetically modified (more than 90% of soya and around 75% of corn are GM in Argentina thanks to the corrupt government under Menen. The US has some non GM soy beans, which Japan import but mostly not for tofu, natto but for animal feeds, and for some processing. Japanese consumers never buy any tofu or natto made of imported soy beans. As to Argentinian protectionism, it should protect domestic industry without violating WTO rules and in such a manner that it will really good for AR industries. But CFK is so foolish and arrogant to protect AR industries which can not produce any equvalently good quality products, thereby stopping Ford or Toyota from making cars due to lack of parts imported> CFK is forcing them to raise US$ by each company to buy parts. This policy is against the growth of AR economy and industry.

Protection of domestic indusries (excluding agriculture, which has many elements which can not be remedied by any efforts, such as a small lots of land, even tastes (not all rices taste same, Basmati is great for Indian and even European food, but not for sushi) as long as the industry to be protected has all the elements to be fully developed domestically in a reasonable period of time to compete in the world but in the case of Argentina, it unfortunately does not have in terms of resources such as well trained engineers and accumulation in technology. In the case of Japan, the Ministry in charge of trade and industry, protected Japanese computer industries to compete with IBM, and now Japan is one of only 2 contries that can produce hardware and no other countries can compete the US and Japan in hardware. Germany does not have any computer industry (Siemens uses Japanese Fujitsu and BASF uses Hitachi, and There is IBM), France whose Bull is a bankrupt company, however, in software, Russia, India, and the US (thanks to Russian immigrants and other immingrants) are very good. For real super computers, the US and Japan are competed for the top position in speed of calculations. So the termporary protectionism for Japan worked very well, thanks to the fact that Japan had and has highly educated and trained engineers, and technological backgrounds which really go back to hundreds of years, contrary to the mistaken ideas many people have. For example, Japan had the very water supply system and waste water handling system in more than 300 years ago, when Europeans did not have any. In London, they threw away feces, etc. accumulated at night, from a window, and the street sweepers came to clean. Also at one point, Japan had the largest gun production in Edo period, but due to a stupid decree of one Tokugawa shogun, it stopped.
If Argentina wants to developed world rate industry, it should learn foreign technology by getting licenses, etc., and train good engineers.

Japan was an invention of the Yanks, thanks to them and trade preferences given to you after WWII (like with China later) you could handle to become someone in this world.

Japan was a pretty backward agricultural country. Japs Big brands that are today like Honda were making cheap bicycle in the 50.

Japs where famous in the western world for they look like tourists taking pics of everything in the western world to make then later Japs cheap copy past versions.

The first electronics good from Japan where absolutely crap, cheap and nasty compared with western standards. Also they were famous for their dumping. While a tv set in Japan cost 1500 USD they sale the same crap to 500 USD to the Americans.

Have you ever paid royalties and licenses for that crap?

Also Japan was and is one of the most projectionist countris in the world, you protect from rice to lettuce and whatever that can be a challenge to your industries.

There is a popular say among American politicians that says “when japs don’t want Lettuce from abroad, they simply don’t inspect the containers and allow the Lettuce to become rotten”

Clean your own mess, nepotism and your corrupt way of doping business in Japan first and then come back. Will you?

More than 20 years of stagnation due to protect banks and industries losses making and friend of the politician mafia.

Now you have to compete in the world and that is pretty hard isn’t it? Especially when others do the same like what you have done before.

Protectionism and subsidies is a ladder that when someone had used it to get to the top he as soon as possible tries to do everything to avoid that some else use it to archive the same goal.

Sorry mate ladders are very cheap on these days and especially those “made in China”.

Ah this is really good have you ever heard about Taiwan?

If you are so smart can you tell me who was the stupid one that put nuclear reactors in the cost that could be crashed by a tsunami.

Your English is so bad and your knowledge is so bad, so it is difficult to answer questions or comments.
In any event, in terms of the quality, Japanese products now are No. one, even freedom fighters or terrorists admit that. Your friend Bin Laden was interviewed by famed British reporter Robert Fisk in the cave os Afganistan, your friend Bin Laden commented that we can not fight here without Toyota trucks, which are very functional and strong, needing much less repair or services. And if you watch TVs now, all of your friends use Toyota or other Japanese trucks to fight French colonialists in Africa. The quality of Japanese TV broadcasting is No. 1, which system is now introduced into most of Laten American countries with one or few exceptions, one being Urguay.
Japan will broadcast 4K TV brograms next year.
But we are talking about Argentina, so we should talk that. If Argentina wants to become one of the most advanced countries such as the US< Japan and Russia. Follow what Japanese has done. Without going throught that process, Argentina will remain one of the most underdeveloped countries in the world, excluding Africans.

    Who makes the gearbox; Xtrac

Just where is your brag about argies designing hi-end engines and gearboxes AND please provide a link to back-up your claim that this ITALIAN car and the other are made in AR.

BTW the fishtailing comes about because it is ony 2WD and 730BHP and even traction control can only shut down the excess, not move it to the front as it can in FWD.

Another BTW: none of the models can be used on the roads in the UK because they cannot get type approval.

I think the tester summed it up when he said it ‘was like a go-kart’

Personally I think the inside looks like an old yank car from the 50s with all that polished metal, bit of a poseurs car.

The Zonda Roadster F Clubsport was tested by Top Gear's The Stig and James May and achieved a lap time around their test track of 1:17.8, beating the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 tested during the same episode, but lost in a quarter mile drag race against the Veyron by nearly 2.5 seconds, FWD to the fore, you see.

You really have no idea of history - your own propagandised version, or thst of other countries.

In the 1800's, Japan was really the first Asian country to realise that it had to re-invent its society and economic structure to compete in the modern world.
They threw over their feudal society and started to become “Westernised”.
By the beginning of the 1900's they were quite modernised, with their own manufacting. They even had a modern Navy capable of taking on the Russians.
Certainly long before WWII, they had their own advanced aircraft industry and also designed and produced cars. Their navy was very formidable.

After the war, the US helped them rebuild their society and their industry. I remember people dismissing Japanese goods as “ inferior” copies of Western technology, but by the 60's there was real innovation and undeniably superior goods were being produced that led to them dominating many markets. The Japanese became a manufacturing giant, not as an “invention of the US”, but through their own innovation, hardworking, and initiative. Compare that to other Asian nations that still primarily produced “cheap goods”.

What can you do that isn't done better elsewhere??

I'm enjoying seeing Dany Dung Heap tangling with Yasu.
Yasu is quite correct in much of what he says, and clearly outclasses an ignoramus like Dany.

I didn't want Dany to get away with dismissing Yasu.

While I don't agree with everything Yasu says, especially his adoration for Russian Communism and its oppressive totalitarian society, it is good to hear his condemnation of CFK.
It's harder for Dany to argue against Yasu, who I have come to believe might really be Japanese, as he cannot lump him in with “you pirate Brits” and “US bankers wanting to keep Argentina down” or similar rants.

Not only does Yasu show that other groups share our perspective of CFK, but they do NOT have to be aligned with us to be anti-CFK.
Yasu has very strong feelings opposing the USA - he feels Obama is more evil than Cristina. He is definitely not one of 'us'.

Yasu seems to be a paradox - if what he says about himself is true, he's wealthy, and yet, an anti-US Communist. He hates China also, arguably a purer form of Communism, so that makes it seem more likely he is really Japanese.

Anyway, Dany will find it hard to defend CFK and his blind nationalistic statements.

What I wish for Argentina is that it will become a more prosperous country with higher standard of living and stable economy. Also more thriving manufacturing. However, one politician after come and wreck its economy. Menen was a pupet of the US and extremely corrupt. H epgged pseo to US dollar, which was a failure because the levels of developments in economy, etc. are so different, pegging peso to US$ is a big big mistake, and after that Argentinian economy experienced free fall. Something similar ias happening in the euro zone consisting fo 17 countries with diffferent economic levels, technological levels, etc. For example, Spain is a backward country really without any manufacturing, They speculated in construction, real estates, but never tried to develop manufacturing. In science, Argentina may be bit more advanced if I measure it in terms of novel prize winners in medicine and science. Germany is a more developed country in technology, science and manufacturing, though it has failed to develop any high technology, and has not come out with new medicines, new high tech products. If one wants to combine countries of different levels of economy, it means disasters. This is what we are seeing in Europe. France is also a bankrupt country as one of its minister said so, embarrasing Hollande. Now Argentina, unfortunately CFK is wrecking its economy by her misguided economic policy. Without her wrong policy, Argentina could have been more prosperous, which I want. We need many countries more developed to counter the US imperialism. We need multi-polar world. For this Russia under Putin has made this world multi-polar. Most people do not know who Putin is. He is a patriot but not nationalist (Putin said nationalism is harmful). As to Russia, which is more democratic then the US (2 party dictatorship where Obama has instituted NDAA which allows even US citizens to be detainted and kept incommunicard gainst due course), Drone killing which can kill anybody with and without causes, and have killed 80% or so innocent people including many children simply because they were around the suspected area), the UK with 2 party dictatorship, France with many colonies some semi and others real, invading foreign countries at will (France invaded about 50 times in 50 recent years), Germany, though not 2 party dictatorshp, started Yugoslavian war, killing many innocents, either directly or by use of its Puoet Croatia (which was allied with Nazis), and sending soldiers to fight in many coutnries even now. However, Russia and the USSR did not invade other countries in their recent histories (thouse the USSR responded to the agression by the US by sending some soldiers as its had bad history of being invaded by Nazis, it wanted to have friendly countries around it). If you have not heard Putin speak, I recommend you to him speaking in RT or Rossiya 24 if you speak some Russian. Putin is a great patriot, whoc has cleaned lots of corruptions caused by Yelchen who was about to make Russia a colony of the US and the West which wanted to steal all the resources of Russia. Putin put Hodokovski in jail because he wanted to sell Yukos (petro company he stoled from the USSR) to American oil companies. This forced Putin to put him in jail. Putin is the most democratic politician in the world, he is very popular in Russia as against Medvedev, who is not popuplar and considered to be bet noir. You have to search many sites in Google, etc., otherwise you get what what you want to support your wrong idea. Even in Google, there is no site which says Putin corrupt, only sites Putin's associates corrupt. Democracy is not an absolute idea, which is often used to justify whatever you like to.

    Hellu boys

    Britain’s long industrial decline
    Enjoy it...

    Pretty scary ins't it?

In the early 1950s, Britain was an industrial giant. Today, it is an industrial pygmy. Manufacturing was industry’s bedrock. In 1952, it produced a third of the national output, employed 40 per cent of the workforce and made up a quarter of world manufacturing exports. Today, manufacturing in this country accounts for just 11 per cent of GDP, employs only 8 per cent of the workforce and sells 2 per cent of the world’s manufacturing exports. The iconic names of industrial Britain are history; in their place are the service economy and supermarkets selling mainly imported goods. What happened? Was it inevitable? Does it matter?

Nicholas Comfort’s book is exactly what its title promises: a roll-call of the dead and the dying. The broad outline of the story is well known. Britain emerged from the Second World War with a technological edge in aircraft, aerospace, computers and electronics that it failed to exploit. In the 1950s and early 1960s, British manufacturers dominated the home market and had about 20 per cent of world exports, with some world-beaters such as the Comet airliner, the Mini and Triumph motorbikes. Then, a decline set in with increasing import penetration and declining export sales, until the trade surplus in manufactured goods finally disappeared in 1983.

In the 1970s, many firms with household names went under. Governments, starting with Edward Heath’s, desperately tried to keep“lame ducks” such as Rolls-Royce afloat by nationalising them. Margaret Thatcher returned the lame ducks to “the chill forces of the market”, many of them drowning. Manufacturing went on shrinking under New Labour; the sector’s workforce halved from 4.5 million to 2.5 million between 1997 and 2010...

Let me continue my discussion on Russia: Putin has many hours talk (about more than 4 hrs) with ordinary Russians over phone in presence, e mail, etc. He gives answers or comments to thos Russians questioning, takes appropriate measures right away. Is there any politician who does this, probably excepting Chaves of Venezuera, though his time spent is much shorter. Fidel talked over 8 hrs, but that is not question and answer session.
Russia also saved this world 2 times or 3 times: Napoleon was defeated by Russians, saving the European countries from the brutal French occupation, then the USSR saved the world by defeating German Nazis, saving the misery of concentration camps, even including its alies such Italy (remember what Nazis did to Italians after defeating Musollini) and Japan. Now Putin has saved from the US imperialism by recovering from the disasters after the collapse of the USSR, and making Russia second strongest country. The reason why the West hates him is that the West failed to steal all the wealths of Russia. Putin is extremely popular among Russians, Ukranians, even among Syrians and Iranians.
As to China, it is important as a power against the US and the EU and also to some extent Japan, though it is a very corrupt countries, stealing technologies from Japan, Germany and the US. Even Russians refused to sell Su 37, as China tried to steal Russian technology. Even French refused to sll its high speed train though France is a pigmy in technology. However China has some flavours of socialism, but not as much as Russia, which is still semi-socialist.
By the way Russia cooperating with India for its development of SU50, fifth generation fighter plane in terms of software and avionics. The US has developed some stealth planes, F35 and F22, but F35 can not fly near thunderstorm, and F22 killed many pilots. They are very imperfect fighter planes.
Now Argentina, having FATA tyres and few other products does not mean it is a technologically advanced.

Well Yasu I’m not going to list all things Argentina does because the list will be so long.
But I guess you have no idea of the Arg industrial sector.

1- Argentina designs and produce oil pumps, oil coolers and carburetors for local brands and that also are exported to US, rest of America, Europe and ASIA.

Brands: Ford, Mercedez Benz, Ferrari, GM, Chrysler, FIAT, Nissan, Isuzo, Land Robert, John Deere, Citroen, VW, Peugeot, Renault, etc, etc.

Also designs and produce headlights and plastic parts for carmakers all brands European, Americans, Asian, etc.

Argentina is full of auto- parts industries called Pymes (Little medium size companies).

2-Pipes, do you know who has virtually the monopoly of the tube for oil in the world?
Techint an Argentine company with companies in Europe, Asia, US, Mexico, Brazil, etc, etc.

3-Petrochemical products, Argentina has more than 55 companies that produce and exports petrochemical products with a total production of 7 mta and exports 2m tons. The giant in the world is Iran with 17mta.

4-Medicines, Argentina has more than 350 labs that produce and exports medicines.

5-Food, Argentina’s industrial and farming sector makes her the 5th giant food producer in the world.

6- Cars, Argentina produces all major worldwide brands of cars and exclusive models only made in Argentina like Amarok the 4x4 off road first ever made by VW to compete with Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, etc. And is exported to Europe, US, ASIA (Including Australia).
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7e_SfYsteE

7-Bio diesel, Argentina is bigger exporter in the world and also major producer with more than 3,2 millions tons more than 2m exported.

8- Argentina produces Nuclear reactors, satellites, radars, communication devices, software, rockets, missiles, armament, etc, etc.

Nothing changes in AR does it?

No matter that Ternium (a major part of Techint) is VITAL to AR, just read the piece below (albeit Wikipedia but I am not paid to troll all day).

“The decision of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez to nationalize Sidor came on the heels of a series of industrial disputes over the previous year. Compensation of around US$1.97 billion was agreed for the nationalisation of Ternium's 60% stake in Sidor, with the former keeping a 10% stake in the company, but frictions emerged with the Kirchner administration in Argentina over their reported refusal to raise objections to the nationalization with President Chávez.

Oh, oh! As Techint have dual HQ I would not be surprised if they consolidated everything in Milan and closed the BsAs office to save them the grief.

It is true that there might be some productions of parts or elements which might be usable or not so bad, but to be a really high tech country, Ar must be able to manufacture at least 30% or 40% of highly advanced products. Unfortunately, nobody knows any AR medicines, Cuba is 100 years more advanced in medical products than AR. Actually Cuba is one of the most advanced in medicine, much better than Germany which does not produce any really good medicine now. Only coutries where medcine ot medical science is very advanced are the US, Japan, the UK, Swiss, Russia (where new MRI machine which does not need superconductivity generating He gas for an individual machine by using a separate He device for cooling magnets, is being built, advanced Raman spectrosopy, some new medicine which may lead to the longevity), and Cuba under the very difficult conditions due to the embargo imposed by the US.
Argentinians have to admit that they are not ranked to be a developed country. It is better than most African countries but can not compete with the US, Russia, Japan. Even some of its subway (metro) trains were donated by Japan, which were running in Japan 1980s. AR has any high speed trains Japan has: Japanese super high speed trains run every 2 to 4 minutes at a speed of 250 to 300 km per hr, being computer controlled, and when there is an earthquake, it can be stopped by detecting earthquake (the wave coming prior to the main quake waves). No train was derailed in the recent big big earthquake. In about 10 years Japan has the first maglev trains using the true superconductivity at the speed of 580 kms per hour, while German use paramagnetism for its maglev, which is not really running. Only some trains were exported to China for use between Shanghai air port and downtown, but it often encounters delay, etc., and ride is not comfortable.
If AR wants to compete with really developed countries, it must have these new products, that is, the world first. AR is underdeveloped
