The Argentine Embassy in Ottawa responded to the vote by offering assurances that “the Argentine Constitution specifically protects the way of life of the population of the Malvinas Islands”.

Like last time? Trust an RG? Not in a purple fit.....

In the highly unlikely event they ever got sovreignty, - Guarranteed that would be immediately removed from the constitution in the same manner it was added in 1994.

Islanders: You have no chopice but to take an anti-Argentine line with the present government in BA. When CFK is gone from the Casa Rosada and in prison, some other government will have to turn on the charm, to try and show they're different from the present Fascists. Don't trust them either. Make long-term plans for getting ahead without Argentine, indeed, in spite of Argentina.

It's all over for Argentina, the news is out and the right to self-determination rules the day.

CFK has completely and spectacularly lost and its all because of her rhetoric that forced the people of the Falkland's Island's to respond using one of their aces.

Think- I appreciate your problem as- to any Argentine the principle of having an election/referendum independently observed by a group of assorted foreign nationals and funded by a 3rd party - ie not the Islands nor UK - is totally incomprehensible to you.
I recall a few weeks ago as a guide for a coachload of Arg tourists visiting here- they were all slagging off your president - I suggested that someone must have voted for her as she received 55% of the vote - The reply I recieved from the coach was- “Ah you do not understands senor guide - elections in our country are different - its the way votes are counted”.
Now I understand what they meant.

@6 As with many things in life it's what isn't said and done that matters. If this Referendum had been seen by the international community as being necessary or justifiable there would have been no end of democracy-promoting NGOs lining up to observe it. As it is there had to be an ad-hoc team cobbled together with, as yet, no transparency on who selected and funded them. This might not matter if it weren't for the announcement by FIG that they withdrew from funding the monitors to avoid accusations of bias.

So, as Think says, why the secrecy? Could it be that the funding trail leads back to some organisation or other that has a financial interest in maintaining the status quo in the Falkland Islands and is not therefore independent at all?

One would THINK they are weak minded and have a tenuous grasp on reality.
I find it very odd that the same 3 posters at the same time every day post and agree with each other.

The third party is not at all a secret, Canadem organised the observer mission and has issued its own press release on the outcome. The mission comprised several S Americans eminent in this field. They agreed it was free and fair.

Think - what is all so secret? They hasve a website - their official detailed analysis will be on it in a week or two I believe.
Dover- yes FIG did start off thinking they could fund the Ibservers - then it was quickly pointed out that that would not look impartial - si FIG found a 3rd party not involved in the dispute who agreed to organise and fund it.
Should we perhaps have invited your President to have organised the Observer mission instead? Invitations were extended to Arg politicians to attend - non bothered to.

@12 I'm so glad it's not really a secret. In fact the RIOM 2i/c told various Spanish speaking reporters that it was CANADEM funded and organised. He also denied when challenged that his past involvement in the US NGO IRI had anything to do with his selection for this mission. The transparency problem is that nothing about CANADEM appears on the RIOM website and nothing about RIOM appears on the CANADEM website. A review of the recruiting tweets between December 2012 and March 2013 doesn't reveal evidence of recruiting. Perhaps you could link the Press Release for us otherwise there'll be this nagging feeling that you and he are telling porky pies.

@13 You have a strange idea of what constitutes quickly. Exco agreed the funding of observers in August 2012 and were recommended to withdraw it only at the end of January 2013.

I'm sure that the whole world, so far as it gives a FIG, will just have to agree with you that the use of an unidentified 3rd party to organise and fund the RIOM is evidentially less partial than the FIG doing it themselves would have been.

This issue isn't as hard as you like to make it out to be. You want the islands? Simple: get an economy as good as, or better than, UK's, so that you can lure/offer the Falklanders something other than poverty, war, and oppression.
This is such an elementary thought, that the fact you can't see this ^ means you're utterly brainwashed.
You get more flies with honey than with vinegar. You don't win a population over, or do the right thing, by attacking/oppressing/impoverishing them. Duh

@24 I fully endorse your assessment of the quality of your understanding. High calibre faeces indeed. I see no evidence of Think claiming that the ballot as in any way rigged although, in my opinion and probably his too, peer pressure in the run up to the Referendum probably did serve to stifle any substantive debate about the many alternatives to the current political status. I look forward to reading the RIOM final report to see if their independent observations led them to conclude something similar.

@26 Thank you for commenting that you don't care what Think and I think. Is it just our opinion you don't care about or is it that of anyone who has an opinion about the conduct of the Referendum? The electorate have indeed spoken, having asked themselves the question they they already knew the answer to. The UK Government undoubtedly has taken note of your opinion and will keep it in mind, I'm sure.
