“Catches thieves just like flies. Look out! Here comes Spiderman.”

No wonder Maduro doesn't like him.

How on earth did someone so thick get to run a country?

“President Nicolas Maduro blamed Spiderman and other ‘idolized super heroes’ of US television cartoons for the growing youth crime in Venezuela,”

The USA has 10 times the population of Venezuela and a lower murder rate. How does thicko Maduro explain that?

One thing that confuses me is the fact that Nicaragua and Cuba are relatively safe countries, but their Bolivarian amigos Venezuela, Argentina and Brazil are far from safe. What's the deal here? Are their security services simply inept or are there other variables at play here?

@8 Could it be that Nicaragua and Cuban citizens are so dirt poor that they can't afford the guns? My guess is it there are less drugs moving through both countries. Certainly less of a gang culture.

    @8, 10

The fact you two are equating the crime level in Argentina to that of Brazil and Venezuela shows how daft your jaded minds have become.

Btw Chile severely underreports 'petty crime', there are just as many pickpockets in Santiago as in any major argie city.

And in the USA the American flags have spend more time at half mast than at full this year, it's one blood bath after the other there.

Oh Nicolas, the sticky web your country is ensnared in has nothing to with Marvel comics or fictional Spiderpersons.

Shame about this South American President dress and talks and thinks.
As President he should focus on create new jobs, in develop new industries and create new schools so the Charneca , Chacaito and 23 of January areas can be clean of crime.
Years ago and today, Venezuelan's jail has been and is operating in full capacity, therefore is not a problem originated after SpiderMan.
Hat and Bird? What kind of clown is he?
Please, put attention to the Venezuelan Currency, which is in new depreciation cycle. Do the best about making improvement in the economy, its exports and better health services to the Venezuelans.
It is forecasted that close to 20 thousands victims will this year alone. Last year were 16 thosands. If it cotinues as it is going, soon their own people will kill each other and Bye Bye Venezuela.

Of all the characters to pick out for him to try and make a point about violence in the media, he picks the one that is most likely to make him look like a complete idiot.

A young man, orphaned as a boy, who has superpowers. Because he lives by the motto 'with great power comes great responsibility', these superpowers hold him in poverty and affect his education as he tries to help others.

When the President tells you the bad guy is the little fella making personal sacrifices for the betterment of society, it's time to get a new President.

This is supposed to be a “leader”? The thing is demented. Isn't there anyone in Venezuela that can lock the nutjob into an asylum? Failing that, couldn't someone just put it out of their misery? What do you do with mangy dogs? Think on.

@8 Maybe it's the decline, not the ideology. Also Venezuela and Argentina have experienced a huge influx of poor peeps. In Venezuela the “white flight” westward is in the millions. Just like their ancestors in the last global downturn 30s-40s, anyone who can afford a plane ticket and can find a new home is doing it.

Meanwhile, Venezuela is accepting tons of Middle Easterners, Haitians, and Africans who are really happy to have a step up from where THEY were.
