    Chaiten volcano gives no rest and thickens ash blanket

    More than 5 000 people had been evacuated in southern Chile, following the eruption of the Chaiten volcano. On Monday, authorities evacuated the town of Futaleufu, some 60 kilometers from the volcano while the remaining residents of the town of Chaiten had left over the weekend.

    The price of a barrel of oil reached Monday above 120 US dollars for the first time, driven by concerns about the situations in Nigeria and northern Iraq. US light sweet crude rose to a record of 120.36 a barrel in morning trading in New York before falling back to a record close of 119.97, up 3.65 over Friday.

    Uruguay's April inflation of 0.33% surprises experts

    Uruguay's consumer price index, CPI, increased 0.33% in April the best performance so far in 2008 and the lowest since April 1962. This means that CPI in the first four months of the year reached 3.2%, (annualized 9.92%) and below the same period in 2007 (4.98%), according to the latest release from the national Statistics Institute.
