Chile was ranked last for income, education and the quality of environment, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development or OECD report on well-being released Oct. 12.

The report also ranked Chile as having poor performance in safety, community and housing. However, Chile received a good rating in employment and work-life balance.

The countries that have the best indicators of welfare by OECD are: Australia, Canada and the United States.

Hungary, Portugal, Estonia, Chile, Mexico and particularly Turkey, stand in the last places in most of the 11 parameters and 22 indicators for the measure of welfare used by the OECD.

If all parameters were considered with the same specific weight, Australia would be the top OECD country, with the highest level of welfare, followed by Canada, Sweden, New Zealand, Norway, Denmark, US, Switzerland, Finland and Holland.

The report assesses 11 topics essential to the quality of life: income, employment, housing, community, education, health, environment, governance, life satisfaction, safety and work-life balance.

The quality of life research was first presented last May for the ministerial meeting of the OECD organization on its 50th anniversary. Besides economic performance and social progress, it also points to the social inequalities in the country.

Chile stands in last place for revenue (0) and the quality of environment (0) and has poor performance in community regarding the quality of support networks (3.4), security (3.4), housing (3.9) and education (4.2).

On the other hand, Chile got good rates in employment (6.5) and work-life balance (6.1). More details about the particular report on Chile: http://www.oecdbetterlifeindex.org/countries/chile

Well, Sergio, if the survey is repeated in say five years time, will Chilean *education* have a high/higher score?

Revenue and Environment (and Community Support Networks and Security) are all able to be addressed over eg 5 years to allow them to get above a ZERO/low score.
