Desperate Argentine officials target big business as the culprits of the current situation

Tuesday, February 4th 2014 - 23:00 UTC
Full article 94 comments

The Argentine government announced on Tuesday it has started “a thorough investigation on major foreign trade companies” which have allegedly registered accounting irregularities for 6.8 billion dollars. Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich said the Central Bank has reported “mining, grain, food, car and oil companies have exported but failed to account for foreign currency income.” Read full article

    This guy is unhinged!

“the Government is fighting economic groups alone”. Why is it always a fight? And why is Argentina the country that has the most problems?

“He is correct. keep up the fight against the greed of big companys.”

    You are being sarcastic, right?

If a govt. entity told you the price you were asking to sell YOUR home, is too “greedy”, you would respect their thinking and lower your asking price, right?

CFK has been making a lot of money I understand. Is she “greedy”?

Typical, lets blame everyone else instead of Argentina, that will fix it. One day they might wake up to the fact they are wrong and try to fix it.

It is not just big companies.

Every Argentine supplier my business deals with hold accounts in Uruguay. They all invoice for services elaborated in Argentina, but ask for payment in Uruguay.

Do they declare their earnings in Arg? I very much doubt it.

    Who would?

Anti business regulations have a way of making businesses avoid regulations.

Why all the supportive comments for big business in Argentina - they have been exploiting the Argentinian people for years and that is unacceptable - why put prices up at this point in time? Don't tell me this is not politically motivated against Cristina. Shell assets should be nationalized and the management should be put on trial for manipulating prices and hoarding. We welcome foreign investment with open arms but they cannot meddle in politics and if they do like Shell then they should be expelled.

Why did people raise prices in Pesos? Are you really that stupid? They were 10 2 months ago now they're 12 so stuff should go up at least 20%.

Capitanich: Yes, you are wise and powerful oh Lord!

The “Minister of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda” has spoken. It's sad to see Kirchner's people desperately using the end game play book of so many failed states by blaming their own failures on others. First, dehumanize the the business community by naming them “inferior, greedy capitalists,” to create widespread indignation among the masses and lay the groundwork for the elimination of the property rights and press freedoms. The rats are caged & lashing out. Heaven help anyone within striking distance.

So sad. A country with such potential which has been laid low by an endemic mix of corruption, chronic economic mis-management, and fantasy politics. And now, as the economy yet again enters a crisis, its back to the good old trick of finding a scapegoat to blame. Anything rather than face up to reality.

During a speech she was adamant again and again that price controls by the consumers,La Campora and the commerce secretary were vital.
There is even applications they have made so you can download them into your smartphone to check the standardized prices are respected by the supermarkets

    http://www.lanacion.com.ar/1661134-como-son-las-aplicaciones-para-smartphones-para-controlar-el-acuerdo-de-precios

That seems pretty reasonable for me and a good idea, the problem however is of course the root of the problem that enables inflation and devaluation in the first place… In time the products go missing and supermarkets are empty

Its very sad but I guess he’s bosses like Boudou, Fariña, Kirchners, Lazaro Baez and so many others who have made massive fortunes overnight and make ostentation of their wealth must trigger a little slight sense of fascination on him and a need of belonging.

    El Diego :
As other posters have pointed out previously , too many Argentines think criticism of the government by foreigners is an attack on the country itself . It's not .
It's going to take at least at least 3 decades to repair the damage from this decada perdida .
In the meantime , this silly bitch will go and live in Cuba or Spain with her stolen billions and you and the millions like you will nostalgically look back on the days of Cristina , the 400 pesos a day and an asado for a days picketing instead of proper work , free money for getting pregnant , for NOT working and a life of subsidies .
Argentina has always been like a tough old boxer that keeps getting punched to the ground but gets up and fights on to take another beating .
This time , I honestly wonder if the country has any fight left in it .

It appears that Cristina doesn't seem to be too worried about hitting rock bottom. She created another social program to “create opportunities” for young people to “study”. They will receive a little over $500 pesos.

She's trying to hold on to her strongest demographic: young low class males by giving them some drinking money.

While she claims to target big business, some of her friends own businesses that openly exploit the true Argentine poor (not lazy immigrants from neighboring countries) and pay them horrendously low slave wages. As long as she gets a cut, it's ok.

Maybe she's talking about those businesses that don't support her politically, and don't lie for her. She will make more enemies, steal more, and blame whomever she wants, but the clock is still ticking on those reserves. Tick-tock...

I don't understand why Capitanich doesn't just bring out the Wheel of Blame during his press conferences. It could have all the usual scapegoats for the mess that the Argentine government has caused.

The segments would have things like: Farmers, British Pirates, MALVINAS!! (that would be about 50% of the Wheel), International Companies, mayors of provinces that do not support CFK, the free press (if there is any left), etc.

Capitanich (spinning the Wheel of Blame): “Today it is the fault of..............BRITISH PIRATES!!!”

Then he could blab on about search and rescue pilots being invaders, imperialism/colonialism this and that until all the time had run out and he could run away before anyone had a chance to ask him any questions.

As a permanent resident of Argentina with Argentine wife and kids, it pains me to see how they continue to let the BoTox Queen blame everyone but the right people for the current situation. My wife has had a chance to look at her country from the outside and now will not read any news unless it comes from Clarin. At least Cristina still has the smoke and mirrors that the Falklands provides, and in a few months it will be the World Cup...after that who knows what the cronies will blame, maybe AGW or spaceships..

Nobody wants to be the golpista boogie man that executes Cristina, the opposition is useless only the CGT which is fairly united in this moment seems to realistic about handing out the knock out punch. The governors league will make things worse they are just expecting things to implode to take over power but the problem is time this will take and the damage she will be making in the process. The only thing she is able to do now is pressing CONTROL P.

While 99% of the opposition simply say it’s a problem of trust on the peso and the government and are too afraid to condemn the government for messing up big time, CFK is will be out of control.

@11 You're hilarious. Nationalism is one thing. Stupidity is something else. Since we're talking about Shell, I did a quick bit of research. Petrol in argieland costs the equivalent of £3.17 per GALLON. In the UK, it would be £5.81. And, through the EU, WE'RE giving YOU aid as well? Do try to understand. You're just a bunch of criminal, greedy cheapskates with an incompetent “government”. You want to blame someone? Blame that thieving cow you call a “president”. While you're at it, explain how the criminal cow has made US$15 million (or more) in ten years. And that's only what she “declares”. How much has she stashed abroad with all those suitcases and holdalls flown out on Tango 01?
@16 As CabezaDura2 says “Freedom of the press”. Additionally, you might want to note that MercoPress isn't published in your shitpile. And the rest of us? Well, we're “foreign” as well. And we're all laughing our socks off watching belligerent, corrupt, criminal, deviant, fraudulent, genocidal, immature, larcenous, mendacious, puerile, whining argieland DIE. Can't wait!

    Iron Mountain!

That's a flash back in history. My trucks used to collect scrap paper from them, presumably from outdated / obsolete records.

The laugh was they claimed “complete confidentiality with all records shredded when out of date” but my drivers were forever bringing in records showing the names and addresses of applicants for loans, together with how many loans they had / or were applying for. I rang the local general manager and because it wasn’t any of his “sheds” he wasn’t interested.

@69 The problem with that is whoever takes over may be involved in drug trade himself, so if CFK gets in jail, they would as well. I wouldn´t be surprised if Scioli and Massa were involved, they were close to the Ks.

@31 MendozaCanadian.“”CFK's fortune has increase 3,540% in ten years.“””
Only 35 times ?? pretty modest....she could have learnt from Brazil's Lula how to do it....in 8 years (during his presidency 2004/2011), his assets increased 2000 times.....that's right, last year Forbes Magazine reported that he had a fortune of US$ 2 Billion.... and his son, who only 6 or 7 years ago was cleaning shit out of the chimp's cage at the zoo, has a reported US$ 400 million...

The second thing that the new president of argentina should do is to bring KFC and her cronies to justice, no matter in which country they end up in.

The first thing they need to do clear up the train crash that KFC is leaving for them.

That's one of the reasons why you hang onto power like its your life,
    because it is.

Is it big business fault for no ketchup in McDonalds?

The Ketchup at McDonalds is horrible!!!

If you want great tasting Ketchup, go to Burger King, theirs is not bad at all.

As for the BBq sauce.. Well, BK's BBQ sauce is horrible and McD's is better. Weird no?

We have been joking about the (lack of) ketchup but it has certainly caught the attention of some of CFK's core voters. It is kinda funny that they are happy for her to steal the country's resources, lie to them and sporadically turn up for work but DON'T MESS WITH THEIR McDONALDS!!!!!

The irony is that, by spending their money at McDonalds, they are lining someone else's pockets ( again )

If they opened up a chain of “Kitchner Burger” outlets, they would a chance of the money going back into their own economy.

It has got to be pretty close now to the complete implosion. Hopefully the UN will hand over what's left of Argentina to the USA, Canada and the Falkland Islands. We will then see a prosperous new country emerge.

@88 - you can imagine it at the UN. UN secretary: so ladies and gents, who wants Argentina? Nation representatives: (silence). UN secretary: ok, who wants Argentina, some 1960s missile technology, a truck load of uranium and a cuddly toy. Iran and North Korea representatives: Fine, we will take it but don't skip on the Uranium. North Korea: or the cuddly toy. Cristina: (stands) Tango 1, come in Tango1, fire up the jets we're going to Cuba. Tango 1: did the fools take the offer. Cristina: hook, line and sinker. Tango 1: you're indeed intelligent and masteful oh lord! Cristina: and beautiful! Nation representatives: (cringe). UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France the rest of the EU: ROFL! Tears of laugher streaming down their faces.

It's funny.....lol. SOme of it may be true, yet sad. I see her cranking up the jets in the near future. I am thinking Cuba will be her exile of choice. I think that Venezuela holds too much risk for her despite being run by a dictatorial bus driver. The military at any time can take over, jail the bus and if asslips where there....blame it all on her and the bus. An island in her mind is her best move. Cuba is the most stable dictatorship.

Except for a few SA countries, when will SA ever have stability? Dictators failed, communism failed and now dictocracies failed. Maybe it's time to try democracy.

@91 - it is sad. Argentina is well and truly are cooked. I think most of the world is coming closer to collapse at this point in time though too. It's why the Anglosphere and our allies need to have each other's back. China looks like it's shadow banking system is close to popping the Multi-trillion debt. That'll
have a big impact on Australia. I'm glad Tony Abbot is in power being a conservative with a sensible strategic mind..... Looks like this decade will be a chaotic one........... Reminds me of the “order out of chaos” slogan.... Without mentioning names.

Latest news from Argentina : In view of diminishing foreign reserves - US$ 27.8 billion - CFK told importers to delay payments to suppliers, which would normally occur in 30 to 45 days, to 90 or even 180 days.....She then went on to inform them, that they should look for foreign loans to finance their imports....the government refuses to announce the new rule officially, and the Ministries involved, when questioned, didn't care to explain, but did emphasize “it was not an order”......who are they kidding ?? Any exporter with half-a-brain knows what this means.....nice isn't it ??

“China looks like it's shadow banking system is close to popping the Multi-trillion debt. That'll have a big impact on Australia.”

That is why one of the policies that UKIP would implement would be to firstly, get out of the EU and then, start trading with commonwealth nations so that what ever happens to the big hitters ( USA, China, Japan ) we are covering for each other and not so susceptible to this “Together we stand, united we fall” way of going on.

I don't know, but next to Camer-moron, our Nigel makes a LOT of sense.
