Argentina praised Uruguay's support in the Malvinas dispute with UK

Argentina’s ambassador to Uruguay Dante Dovena has praised the “commitment” and support of President Jose Mujica administration in the country’s sovereignty dispute against the UK as he readied to close he 2014 Malvinas Forum in the neighboring nation.

“I show gratitude for the commitment of Uruguayans who took part in the activities during the whole year. We have nothing else but gratitude words for this space of Uruguayans who have decided to commit themselves completely in a cause that has many possible views: the fight against colonialism, the defence of sovereignty, the protection of the region’s natural resources, the anti-militarisation and keeping the South Atlantic as a zone of peace,” Dovena said while closing the event and praised the support of President Mujica, Foreign Minister Luis Almagro and members of the Malvinas forum.

“Uruguay has been a regional leader in this matter, marking the agenda and installing the issue in international forums, taking the cause as its own” the ambassador said joined by Parlasur chairman Rubén Martínez Huelmo and the Malvinas Forum coordinator and senator Luis Rosadilla.

Dovena also took time to renew Argentina’s long-standing calls for dialogue with London to address the sovereignty of the resource-rich archipelago, occupied by the British in 1833.

“Although the support of Uruguay has been almost a state policy, we consider that the creation and the job carried out by the forum over the past three years has reinforced the matter and shown that there are Uruguayan brothers who assume the Malvinas question as their own cause.”

No word from Uruguay to confirm the usual verbal diarrhea from Argentina.

NB: Ms Laurnaga, Chamber of Deputies, (of the Frento Amplio no less!), has previously noted the pivotal role of a former member of the UK House of Commons, Lord John Ponsonby, who was the chief negotiator of the Treaty of Montevideo which created the independent state of Uruguay in 1828.

Usual drivel. Funny how you never hear firsthand from the politicians that allegedly support Argentina's illegitimate sovereignty claims, just third-hand via Argentinean politicians. A sovereignty claim without a sovereignty case can only mean it is illegitimate and w o r t h l e s s. 92 years since the world court system came into existence to deal with sovereignty disputes is a hell of a lot of acquiescence and nullifies anything that Argentina has. Lol
