Continental Chile will stand at a four hour difference with Greenwich international time, GMT, instead of the three hour difference during summer months Continental Chile will stand at a four hour difference with Greenwich international time, GMT, instead of the three hour difference during summer months

As of midnight Sunday, May 15, Chile implemented winter time to save energy, which means clocks had to be put back a full sixty minutes. The measure is adopted every year following on a resolution from the Ministry of Energy and will be effective until 13 August.

In practical terms this means that Chile's continental territory will stand at a four hour difference with Greenwich international time, GMT, instead of the three hour difference during summer months

Chile's government original idea was not to make any time changes this year, but growing complaints about morning darkness after 08:00 convinced the government to keep to the old system

The decision also means that Chilean winter time will be an hour earlier than that of the Falklands.

And why is this not done in Argentina?....at least in Mendoza and the rest of the western provinces. It doesn't get light here in the middle of winter till at least 8:30. Electric costs have risen dramatically and yet they just sit there sucking their thumbs. The new governor brought up the subject about a month ago...but as usual, nothing was done. Same old, same old....

“ The measure is adopted every year..”

They have been dithering on this.

Not smart enough to change to winter schedules, so they change the hands on the clock.

How I wish the 'children' who 'rule' Uruguay would listen to us. Apart from farmers (I suspect) nobody else wants it to remain dark so late in the morning.

But, according to the twat in charge of the tourism ministry it is to help our tourists. WTF is this person smoking? There are NO tourists until next season.
