A Royal Navy medical officer who saved the lives of hundreds of British and Argentine troops during the Falklands War has died, aged 71. Working amid terrible conditions in the field, Surgeon Capt Rick Jolly OBE, from Torpoint, Cornwall, saved the life of every British serviceman he treated. He is the only person to have been decorated by both Britain and Argentina for his service during the conflict. Read full article

Failed and reviled Clegg gets Knighted, so does Ringo, traitor Adonis is a Lord, and Jolly gets an OBE!

Encapsulates exactly whats wrong with the stinking British establishment.

    .@The Voice.

How Clegg deserves a knighthood is simply beyond me and now Eric Pickles will get a peerage.

The honours system would be more creditable if the honours were handed out to the right people, and that should start with Servicemen/fireman et al risking their lives for others.

We could do with more men like this. No matter who the patient, they were given the best possible care and treatment. There are men on both sides who owe him their life.
An example whose hippocratic oath came first regardless of nationality.

@JanH. Didn't you used to call yourself, with good reason, Hepatitis? Could you do us all a favour? Start by recognising that there is no such place as “Malvinas”. Then, “England” cannot “return” anything for a number of reasons. First, something that has never been “taken” cannot be “returned”. The Falkland Islands were discovered and settled by Britain, not England. “England” has no authority to engage in international affairs outside the British Isles. The internationally-recognised sovereign entity is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The United Kindom, and that includes the majority of its population, is committed to doing nothing without the agreement of the Falkland Islanders. United Nations General Assembly resolutions are not binding.

Having taken all that into account, could you hold your breath until “England” decides to “return” the “Malvinas”? Please. There is a bit of advice that is known of worldwide. “If you have nothing worthwhile to say, say nothing”. Your parroted interjections are a waste of bandwidth.

His death - along with that of the companion generation - marks the passage of another age.

Will the young acknowledge or even recognize the sacrifices made by their grandparents?

RIP Doc. Not heard of him before but sounds like a great credit to humanity, really moving actually. I hope his great example, and the consensus across political lines in salute to it here, is a sign of better, kinder, more human relations between Britain and Argentina to come

If you haven't heard of him then you don't know much about the Falkland's conflict.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sorry not to have known about him before, he sounds like a real inspiration. And no, I'm not an expert on the war, though I do think I know a fair bit about Argentine politics, the economic collapse of neoliberlaism, the successes of Kirchnerism, the fight with the vultures etc, even about Cristina's very modest proposal for us just to sit down and have talks instead of David Cameron (remember him?) militarising the region to get all the oil

No, I don't remember D.Cameron militarising the region for “oil”
I remember Kirchner and her cohorts lying and threatening to take over the Falklands.
Remember the UK's ballistic missiles in the Falklands threatening Argentina. Our forces -not yours-building up for an invasion.
One of your beloved Christina's ministers saying at a passing out parade of the Argentine Airforce that the only thing stopping Argentina from invading were the British forces on the island.
Christina's modest proposals....we want the islands...give them to us.

I remember them having a fit about Prince William going there to fly search and rescue helicopters - not even anything military.

Lets not go there on what's been a good thread (minus Conqueror and JanH) so far. I don't interpret Cristina's stance the same way, I think we should have taken her up on talks, but for the sake of Dr Jolly's memory shall we just agree to disagree for now?
